    Exclamation Virus - HELP

So after begging DH to give up part of his morning he took DS (9mths) to the Doc on Friday morning (he prefered to be at home packing as we are moving house lol). Anyway DS had been vomitting (sometimes projectile) after most meals and bottles for the previous 4 or 5 days. On and off he had a few bouts of diareaha (sic) too.

Dr says it's a virus - let him ride it out. Ok, part of me says 4 or 5 days is too long, but the other part of me says well once he seems do his vomit he goes back to his usual happy self.

Fast forward to now, sunday night - same symptoms, although he is managing to keep his morning bottle down for the last 2 days - so thats good.

He's been on a de-lac formula for the past 6 wks as he was having runny poo, and that seemed to solve the problem.

I am concerned as I've been giving him little food, and just offering bottles. Should I keep on doing what I am, return to the Dr?? Any other suggestions???

as long as he is being hydrated I wouldn't worry about the food at all. Keeping his bottle down for 2 hours is a good sign. Other than doing stool cultures to determine the bug there really idn't much more the GP can do, but if it continues for much longer go and get a second opinion

Sometimes viruses can linger for a while. If he is happy between bottles and still weeing lots, then you are okay to sit it out for another couple of days and wait anf see if it gets better. If he seems unusually grumpy or miserable, or he isn't drinking as much and his nappies start to get drier, than it might be worth getting him check out sooner.

I agree, the whole "he's got a virus" thing is very frustrating. It IS true, though - most of the time, when children get sick, it IS a virus, and there are so many different viruses that cause certain symptoms that we almost never even know what to test for.

    Thanks everyone!

So far overnight he kept his last bottle down, and this morning so far he's kept his morning bottle down - and no runny poo!

He still is having wet nappies so I'm not concerned about hydration at this point (after having DD come down with RSV last May I won't be waiting that long for a second opinion again!). I'll see how he travels today, cross fingers we've seen the ar$e end of this virus (pardon the pun - I couldn't help myself lol!).
