Preparing my lil man for school

Yasin has been doing distance education but in about 10 days he's off to real school. What should I be doing to help him prepare?

Sorry, but how old is your son?

Gosh I can't think. He did preschool last year though didn't he? I can't remember now. You could get a book about going to school, there are a few out there. You could also talk to him about what happens at school and explain little lunch and big lunch etc. Do you think that the school will let him have and orientation day of sorts or even a tour of the classroom? That would help him get familiar with where everything is.

I would suggest he integrates the same way they do with preps so maybe half days or a day off here or there etc. It can be a big jump to start with. Especially if he's used to a different style of learning iykwim?

We have a meeting with the school today. I don't think we'll be very popular - they have a waiting list for out of area enrollments so they don't have lots of places.
The good news for my littler guy is that he'll be at pre-school there.
I like the half day idea. I'll see if they can give him a couple before he starts. Maybe even delay his enrollment until the beginning of next term? But he's pretty keen to make some new friends so he'll be disappointed if he can't start soon.
He got his school bag and lunch box yesterday so he got busy playing with it in the afternoon.

I'd take him up to have a look around so he knows where the toilets are, where his classroom is, etc.
Check that he can open his new lunch box by himself as well - and explain to him what he should eat for play lunch and what he should eat for lunch (so he doesn't go trying to eat it all at recess).
