Exhausted and now I feel like a bad mum!

Poor dd2 spent the night screaming from 8pm until 6am when she flaked. She wouldn't eat or drink anything and anytime we tried pain relief she spat it out, no luck with it in milk as we normally do.

We got back from the drs and it's an ear infection. She still wouldn't eat or drink so as a last resort I found a medicine dropper and I had to hold her down to slowly drip her antibiotics and panadol into her mouth. It took an hour but after lots of tears we got there. I felt awful but dd1 has made me feel even worse by telling me I don't like that mum while I was doing it.

Fingers crossed that after her they kick in and a sleep she will feel like drinking for the next dosages.

Oh Black_rose, I totally get where you are coming from They are such honest little people.
My DS2 had recurring ear infections every winter and it was so tough on him and us.
The other thing that may help is panadol suppostries if she doesn't like the panadol taste. I think Antibiotics also can come in suppostries??? The AB's should kick in pretty much with an hour or two.
I hope your little girl is feeling better soon and you have a peaceful night

Its terrible when they will npt drink and will not take their meds - Bella was very sick once and would not take her meds and I had to get DH to hold her while I forced it into her! I dont know who was crying more! But they started to work fast and she would drink her bottles for the rest - I know where you are coming from!
I hope they kick in soon and you all get a better night!

I think every mum feels bad having to force medicine into their child but it is something that must be done. It is really hard to not hurt when they are screaming but deep down you know it is for their good. Hope the abs kick in soon and she will start feeling better and you all get a decent sleep tonight.

Have you tried getting her to drink from a straw, when my girls were small this often worked when I needed to get fluids into them. Also try really weak cordial or juice to get her to drink, don't worry to much with food. If there is not improvement with in 48 hours take her back to the Drs.

    You so deserve a hug,
You know you did the right thing, it was the best you could do for your dd. and darling your 26 weeks pg your amazing that you managed to type your post co-herently after all that!!!

Don't be so hard on yourself. I hope your week improves, I had to tell a friend how to restrain a screeming 2yo on her own to give a puffer recently. It tears at your heart strings, but it's a necessary evil sometimes

as well as juice/cordial, jelly & icypoles can be your friend too.

Thanks everyone! She is doing a bit better today she has realized that their is medicine in her milk or juice she is taste testing before drinking. Dd1 said dd2 was sad then hid the dropper, she got it out when I asked her for it.

It's a bit easier to give her the antibotics today though she lay in my lap and didn't struggle. I got a big cuddle too which she doesn't like too often.

Exhausted and now I feel like a bad mum!

She is still in pain it's taking a long time for her to get over it, but she is happy to take the antibotics without fighting again. Will prob go back to the gp tomorrow.

I hope being 11 days since your last post everything is well again.
I'm having one of those bad mum moments now, 'cause my little one has just been put in a brace, and the whole guilt thing is setting in. I'm trying to tell myself it's better now than later, she won't remember, it's for her own good. still doesn't stop the feeling does it?

I hope you get through the winter months without needing to do it again.

I thought she was ok but we had a check up and the ear infection is still there she just isn't grizzling about it anymore the poor darling so she is back on ab but she she is sleeping and eating again.

I feel for you about the brace, dd1 had one on for 8 months and it was heartbreaking when it was first on and then adjusted fortnighly so a big hug for you!
