    Underbites.....anyone?

ON J mans side of the family, out of the 7 kids 4 have an underbite. With every birth of our children he has been paniced about them having the family trait.

Our boys all have normal jaw lines....all have my pointy witchy chin loll but mini me has quiet a bad underbite.

I was wondering if anyone out there in BB world has had an underbite or has one and can give me a bite of help in regards to operations, eating ect. I find that mini me doesnt eat alot and I wonder if its because its hard for her to chew or open her mouth fully.

    TIA

i have a friend whos DD had a class 3 too, i advised her to get her assessed and at around 8-9 she had braces put on to pull the lower jaw back and top forward etc.. things have changed alot over the years with better treatments available, so hopfully she may avoid surgery in the future

I had an under bite when I was a kid.
I remember having to wear plates all the time for a while, then only at night.
I got them in grade 3 so I would have been 7.
Worst part was getting the impressions done for the plate, poor mum and poor dentist I remember screaming the house down. Poor other kids in the waiting room lol.
When I was 16 I got braces as well for a year.
    All good now.

I actually went to the orthodontist today for my underbite. I was told that if I was 9-12 ish, he could've treated my underbite without surgery. In your child's case I think they would go with expanders to try and make the top jaw bigger, he/she may have to wear head gear. This would be over a long period of time. You might get more health insurance coverage out of it.

Where as my treatment plan is for about 2 years with a total cost of $9930. Considering most health funds cover around $700 per year for othodontic treatment, that's a lot of out of pocket expenses. And that's just braces.

I'll also have to have surgery, my orthodontist mentioned that some part of it will be counted as cosmetic, so my health fund won't cover the entire cost of the surgery. I think I might try another orthodontist, because I don't feel like this one is going to help me fight to have most of the surgery covered.

Anyway, get it done sooner rather than later. Good luck!
