Biting and sore nipples!

So DS has started biting infrequently and it hurts soooo much!! Hes got 2 razor blade sharp teeth and he just chomps down and grinds!!! the pain!!! Then my nipples hurt so bad afterwards for at least a day and whenever he feeds

I feel like just slapping him it takes everything in me to NOT do it! How bad does that sound
So can anyone give me some suggestions as to how to make him stop!!

FWIW... mum slapped me when i bit down on her once apparently, just out of sheer reflex... apparently I never did it again ><;;
I'm subscribing, cos my little vamp is doing it too and I want to stop him before the fangs come!

I also slapped my daughter when she bit me (didn't mean to, it was also just a reflex) and she also never did it again!
My DS has just sprouted his first tooth and I am also pregnant (so have sore nipples at the moment anyway) so I am pretty much dreading every feed lately too

Take him off if he bites and try attaching him again. Also look out for biting signs. Does he do it towards the end of a feed? He might be finished or getting frustrated that your let-down has slowed. Check your attachment, if he's on the breast properly he won't be able to bite. Try feeding him where there is little stimulation, so that he can't get distracted and come off (biting as he goes).

He's too little to really learn any manners and with teeth already he might be trying to alleviate the discomfort. You could try having him suck on a cold washer before putting him back on to see if that helps make his new teeth/gums feel a bit better.

My DD accidentally chomped down (toothless) at 3 mths and I gave such a yelp of pain it startled her. She came off, her little face fell and she cried as if I'd broken her heart. She never did it again, but I'll never forget the sad little face. Nearly broke my heart!

I remember feeling the same way Jen has given you some great advice and when I knew the signs I would always keep the nails on my pinkies short and at the edge of his mouth ready to delatch if he looked like biting. It doesn't last forever and it does pass I did find DS would do this every now and then especially when teething.

Thankyou ladies i have growled at him once hes done it and he gets so upset the bottom lip drops and he howls im pretty sure hes doing it out of frustration as its not at the end of a feed but generally at the start off one. I thought it may have been because he wasnt hungry but he is i think it must hurt sometimes.....but surely he cant be getting anymore teeth yet!?

Hopefully since the last time he cracked it with me for being yelled at was enough for him not to do it again

My DD has done this to me off and on since week 2. I have a friend who was a lactation consultant when she lived in WA. The advise she gave me was to take her off straight away, firmly tell her NO and to use an iliteration. The iliteration goes 'nibbling nipples naughty'.

It has worked for me, and K only tries to bite occasionaly now and normally only if her gums are hurting her.
