Chocolate collar for a cake? Hints?

Not exactly a cake recipe, but I wondered if anyone would have tips on how to make a chocolate collar to go around a cake. Is it easy or would I be better off trying to make square panels to look like a fence if you know what I mean?

    Thanks

melt your chocolate in a bowl over a saucepan of water, measure a piece of contact the same shape as the distance around your cake. Spread your chocolate on the shiny side of the contact, let set for a few minutes at room temperature then before it has gone hard place it around the cake. Leave it for about 10 minutes at room temperature then you can remove the contat carefully. Make sure the chocolate is even and maybe even make it slightly thicker at the ends as that is the most likely place to break. Good luck, I am making one for a cake tonight as well.
