    Purposefully shrinking wool

Hope this is in the right place as it is kind of related to wool..
So my mother in law bought me a jacket last week and gave it to me as a gift, I am 37 weeks pregnant and it is MASSIVE, I am swimming in it! I looked at the label and it is a size 16 and I am usually a 10-12. There are no labels on it, so I am stuck with it.
So my question is.. is it possible to shrink it (safely) so it fits? I am pretty sure it is made entirely of wool.
    TIA

So you want to shrink it without felting it? Hmm I'm not sure. Are there any wool or knitting shops near you cos they'd know for sure.

I suspect this won't work very well, because the seams and lining etc are not likely to shrink at the same rate as the wool, so it will change the shape of the jacket. And even if you did shrink it I don't think it would shrink more than a 1/2-1 size less than it is now.

yeah.. without wrecking it, but it needs to be shrunk quite a fair bit.. I could hunt around for some shops.. or buy myself a new jacket I guess
