I think DD1 has measles. She has a rash that i noticed on her tummy last night that looks like a heat rash and tonight it has spread to her back and a bit on her legs. She has had a runny nose for a few days and temp and cough.
I will take her to the dr tomorrow but i'm worried now that if this is what it is, what it means for DD2 as DD1 has been giving her lots of kisses and cuddles.
Not sure about a measles rash but if you press down on it with both thumbs, kind of dragging your thumbs away from each other, does the rash disappear and then reappear when the skin bounces back? If it does, it is most likely a viral rash (which is something that often goes along with any viral infection like a cold and temperatures in children & babies).
I have rushed DD to hospital before with this as it spread so quickly and was everywhere. Hopefully both girls will be okay
Sunshine I thought the same thing a few months ago with my DS. Same symtoms as you described so we rushed off to Drs. It was only a viral infection accompanied with viral rash
He said he has been practising medicine for over 10yrs now and has never seen a case of measles because vaccinations has pretty much taken care of it.
I hope this puts your mind at rest a little and fingers crossed for the Drs
Dont worry about jumping to conclusions hun. Its always good to check anyway with a GP Just in case. DD has had viral infection 4 times now. They look very nasty. I had to pick her up from CC once as they thought it was the start of chicken pox, took her to the doctors in a panic and was told it was just viral rash.
We've just had Sam down with something similar last week.
Nappy change at lunch time and he was all clear - 4 hours later at the next nappy change he was covered in a rash of raised red spots. Add in nasty fevers, runny nose and being completely off his food... We took him to the GP, she was pretty confident it was just a viral rash, checked his ears and throat and found a very red and inflamed set of tonsils... Came back the next day and he was already picking up and seemed better.
I was completely freaked out as I have a lowered immune system and was going away (without Sam) for the weekend and was petrified we'd all be put into isolation with something horrible - but he's fine now. I never even knew that viral rashes existed until a couple of weeks ago when Sam was again sick (but with more of a snotty, tummy bug thing), but this one looked scarily like measles which was why I was so worried. Thank you for nothing, google images!
