Unhappy Spltting skin on thumb from thumb sucking :(

My DD has been a thumb sucker pretty much from birth, DH and i decided against a dummy (i know the debate, you can get rid of a dummy and not a thumb  )
She used to only suck her thumb when she was tired or upset, she seems to be doing ir more often now and now the back of her little thumb is split it looks so red and sore (she also has a mouthful of teeth - she had 6 teeth by 7 months- lol) so i know thats not helping much to DHs horror (he doesnt actually know lol) but ive tried her with a dummy and she ust wont take it.
so.. HELP?? what do i do? ive thought of putting asome paw paw on it and then a elastoplast bandaid (you know the really super sticky ones that stay on forever) but i am scared she might suck it off and choke on it?
i dont want her little finger gtting infected.. as well as it looks so nasty and sore.. it couldnt be nice

Thanks for your help ladies xx

The split will only heal if her skin is allowed to dry and heal undisturbed - so you need to stop the thumb sucking. Calendula ointment will help.

Mum used the nail biting stuff on my sisters thumb, you know the stuff that tastes foul.

DD1 sucked hers til she was 26 months, we had only one infection in that time and it was in the cuticle, we had to use betadine on it then rinse well. as for stopping her, we used sports tape on her thumb as we knew it wouldnt come off and it was uncomfortable so she couldnt suck it, it worked!!
as for the split, thats a tough one im afraid, is it a bad split??

the split isnt bleeding, but looks quite red and nasty, i did go to the chemist one day to see if there was something i could put on it to make her stop sucking on it but they were all 15 year olds working and i honestly didnt think there was a cream i was more just after some advice on how to stop it.
i might try that stuff that makes it taste bad.. but will that hrm her being as she's so younge?
