    chesty cough and temp... help

DD1 came down with a sudden chesty cough tuesday morning last night had 40 degree temps, comes down with nurofen then goes back up , shes flushed etc... is it likely to be a chest infection or just a cough?? this sort of thing is going around here

The poor thing . My kids had that cough a few weeks ago, DS1 had a really high temp with it. He had a viral infection, there wasn't much we could do apart from lots of clear fluids and Panadol to keep the temp down. It's probably worth a trip to the GP JIC though. I hope she feels better soon.

I'd take her to the drs love. A high temp like that she might have a chest infection.

What sort of cough is it? Is it a barking type cough, a wet "chunky" sounding cough, does she appear to have trouble breathing at all when coughing or regaining her breath afterwards.

    Poor little poppet xxoo

beema its a barking/wet cough i was worried abouot croup yesterday but we went ok overnight, she was quiet distressed before i was nearly crying but shes settled down abit again, very sleepy though drs in a few hours, its probably just a virus though

If it is a barking seal type cough it would lend to being croup it is horrible when they are distressed

But the wetness may be a mild dose of croup and like you said a virus as well. Usually a wet hacking type cough is Bronchiolitis, moreso if there is wheezing or more visable effort needed to breathe.

I hope it is a very short lived virus

Hope she is ok.. DD was diagnosed with bronchial pneumonia last week with similar symptoms (temp spiked 2 days running, came down with Nurofen), then she started getting quite lethargic on Friday and we already had an appointment..

If you feel like it you can see how she goes, but 40 is pretty high. I'd have her looked at.
We were heading to the doc for an ear infection with DD2 after temps over 39 the other night, but she came good & hasn't had a problem since! I'm still waiting for it to come back though...
