    My Baby Girl is Sick

My DD, 3months3days, has just been diagnosed with and ear infection, throat infection and bronculitus.

She has been grissley for a few days due to teething (visable signs of a tooth trying to break), and tonight when I put her down to bed she screamed the house down. So I got her up gave her some more boobie and a bum change cause she had a runny poo and put her to bed again. And once again straight away it was ear piercing scream, so I gave her some panadol, rang the locum and gave her boobie.

I was lucky that the locum was here quickly considering they said 2-3 hours wait. I have been given a script for antibiotics but he said that I should only fill it if she is no better by Monday. I am cautious about giving her antibiotics cause I dont want her body to become use to them and develope a reliance on the to fight infections and I am allergic to penicillen.

DD is exclusively breastfeed and will not accept a bottle at all. Is there any natural ways I can help my baby get better sooner?

It's so hard when your little one is sick. The best thing you can do for her is give her as much access to the breast as possible. Make sure you are drinking lots of water and eating well as this will help you nourish her. You may find she sleeps better (and therefore so do you) in bed with you, even if you do not want to co-sleep in the long term. Also do not be afraid to keep giving her panadol (within the recommended dosage of course) if she has a temperature.

You could try taking echinachia as I think this will pass through your milk to her, but in the meantime the easiest thing to do is just comfort her until she gets better, and call the GP if she shows any signs of getting worse.

I hope she feels better soon

Thanks. If she is no better by Monday I am going to take her to our GP anyway. I want to discuss with her about using antibiotics with her being so young and me having an allergy to them. I'll get some echinachia tomorrow.

I feel so bad cause she is sick, but I know its a natural part of childhood.

I wouldn't use the antibiotics for the bronchiolitis (which is viral, so antibiotics won't work) or the throat, unless they have identified something likely to be bacterial, like a tonsillitis. I would consider them for the ear infection, although honestly, a lot of ear infections are viral as well, and as you can't tell the difference, it's hard to say for sure whether they will be useful or not.

Lots and lots of breastfeeds - they will relieve her pain, and keep her hydrated - she'll lose a lot more fluid when she has fevers and diarrhoea.

No advice just a big my 20 month old is going through the same things, she has an ear & throat infection and had a fever for 2 days, wouldn't stop sooking and didn't move off the couch.
She got the fever shakes and scared the crap out of me.

If BFing settles her and keeps her comfy then def keeps up the fluids that way, lots of cuddles and boobie love and hopefully she's better ASAP for you.

Hugs Hun. Not fun having such a sick little one. My ds recently had an ear infection. Although he is a bit older than your dd. My GP said he has lots of fluid in his ears and to clear it we used fess saliene nose spray every few hours for a few days the before sleep for a week and he seems to have cleared up. And nurofen for the pain. With ears it can really hurt when lying down which I used the nurofen for a couple of nights only. But as I said my ds is 2, so this might not be an option for you.

Maybe if things don't clear up ask your GP about this? Hope she is better soon. Xx
