GYMPIE girls....i need your knowledge and wisdom !!!

DP has been offered a job in Gympie and we are thinking about moving that way...currently living in Noosa.
Would be great to chat to some people who live in that area and get some inside information!!

We are really looking for a small town on the outskirts of gympie where we can rent a house for a resonable price and at a later date buy a bit of land and house in the same area. Any ideas???

    Thanks in advance!!

I work there, but live on the Coast. I could pm you and tell you a bit about some of the areas around there if you want but probably shouldn't post some of my opinions where everyone can see, iykwim?! PM me if you want.

Mmmm just be careful my love. It's got a reputation that's not a good one. Which may mean nothing - but just so you're aware.
I have a friend who works there & he is a man & he says he feels unsafe at night after work etc etc. It's a bit "rough" I believe...

I don't know. Its got a high crime rate. A large I shoot and I vote contingent... It's a bit rough & always has been. It might be changing I don't know. I just know this friend of mine says it's rough as guts & when he's finished at the hospital at night it's hairy what goes on around the place. He's certainly not a whimp but I am only reporting someone elses experiences.

So Bec, have you had any more thoughts about The Gymp? When I first started working there it had just been named "The Murder Capital of Queensland" and my parents were beside themselves when I announced proudly that I'd gotten a job there but that title has since been lost and the crime rate is lower than lots of other places. I personally wouldn't live there (which is why I travelled from the Coast for 8 years), but that's just me. It really isn't that far to drive, but that stretch of hightway has a bad reputation. The people there have all been really friendly and helpful though it does have its share of rough nuts!

thanks for you PM, we are actually going to have a look at a house tomorrow...which is why im up at 4am stressing that we wont get it casue its awesome. We decided that it wouldnt be good for DP to drive that road twice a day, and when we looked into housing up here we were amazed! we have always wanted a bit of land and to live out in the sticks, i was bought up on and around farms in the uk. and we found this place for the same rent we pay now, on land,....lots of land. they actually asked if we would be moving livestock in with us....i had to laugh! its about 20 min drive from the outskirts of gympiem which is where dp would be working! so heres hoping!
