So I took DD to the pharmacy to get weighed, and the nurse said DD has thrush!
I thought it was nappy rash, as she's been teething.
But I have a tendency to disregard all medical professionals and go with my instincts; which are: DD does not have thrush.
I say this because she's happy, had no discomfort during nappy changes, or peeing etc, and there is no discharge.
The area is a little pink, and one or two tiny red spots (which I think are nappy rash blisters).
I've applied some Daktozin to the area anyway, but just wanted some info from anyone else who has experienced this?
What did your baby's 'thrush' look like? What kind of symptoms?
Are there any side effects of Daktozin?
Usually thrush in bub's is a super-imposed infection on top of nappy rash, not vaginal thrush as we know it. You might see isolated red spots away from the main body of the rash itself, and the rash can look a bit red and nasty. Daktozin is great for it as I find it sticks better then nystatin, I don't know the side effects but Dr google should. I would trust the medicine though as I have used it numerous times on small premature babies with no ill effects at all. If the rash is particularly bad I would recommend treating orally as well as the area in question, but your case sounds extremely mild.
Ok so I've been treating with Daktozin for about 5 days now and seen NO results whatsoever. Still slightly pink, and there are two red sores that are still as bright red as before.
Anyone know how long it takes to see results?
I've been applying the Daktozin after every single nappy change.
If it wasn't so cold, I'd have her out of the nappy.
heya turtleschell,
i treated my DS for thrush and it took a good 7-8 days to fully go away, but I did notice it getting better within 3 days. Maybe ask the chemist for a different brand of cream (if there is one? I'm sure there would be...)
I agree with ree*ree, give it a good week and if no change then change to another brand that has a different antifungal (nystatin). Of course we are assuming that it is thrush.
also, are you rubbing it on or just patting it on? cos I did find that just dabbing the cream on worked better, not smoothing it on. I think on the tube it says not to rub it, and I didn't think much of it, but they're right! lol
