    Is she sick too much?

DD1 is in kindy this year. She goes to the Kindy at the local primary school 2.5 days a week. She only started going in the second term but has had 5 days off already for being sick. Well, one time she fell on her knee and couldn't walk, another day she had a eye specialist appointment for her squint and the other three days were for colds. She was coughing with snot and I wouldn't want other kids to go to school like that and infect my child so I kept her out. Do other kids also take off so much or is it only my DD? It seems that whenever we get into the class there are little kids with snotty noses and horrible coughs.

Its normal, especially if she has never been in daycare before. When DD1 started daycare we were all sick for 6 months, and poor DD2 has been sick for the past few weeks.

Your DD will build up her immune system, it doesn't help that other parents send their kids when they are sick. We seem to live at the Dr's in winter, but he says is better for them in the long run by the time they get to school they won't get sick all the time.

is this the first time she has been in group care??? often see that children in group care for the first time, whether daycare kindy or school are sick often for the first six months or so as they come into closer contact with other children and consequently their illnesses. The stage at which parents keep their children home does vary.

My children have been in a variety of care situations but I still find that a new facility/location brings another bundle/strain of different bugs/germs and thus we seem to be susceptable to whatevers going round for the first few months.

yes, this is the first time she has been in group care. I wish the whole family wouldn't get sick everytime as well. Hopefully her immune system will build up quickly.

You can also boost her immune system by helping her gut (something like 80% of the defense system is there) with probiotics. Get some good stuff from a naturopath which you can sprinkle on food, or put in yoghurt. Yoghurt has some naturally but not in good sized doses. Also many brands are fast tracked with faecal matter and made other ways. Fast Tract or In-Liven is great stuff, but it's not the cheapest of them all. You get what you pay for though Garlic is also great, its 3 in one, anti bacterial, fungal and I think viral. Onion also good. All the usual antioxidants (A, C & E vitamins) are good.
