We will be travelling overseas for Christmas, visiting family.
Our baby will be 3 - 4 months old then. I'm just interested to hear what we can expect with a baby this age with regards to flights and sociability....
Do you think that a trip like this will upset our LO? We will be going for 6 weeks.
Also, will we be able to do touristy things with him/her, ie days out etc?
We took our DS1 overseas when he was 5-6 month old. He coped really well with the plane and at the aiport, but had to be fed to sleep (fully breastfed). He also adapted well to the different time zone (Europe), following the same sleep/eat routine as at home. He loved all the new faces around and didn't have any problems being in a different house and around people he didn't know. We stayed with my parents the whole time, only going for day trips, during which he slept in the hug-a-bub or in the car. Coming home it took him a week to get over the jetlag, but after that he was back to normal. HTH
I haven't taken my little one overseas yet but we are planning on it at Xmas when she is 8 months old.
But since she is 3 months old now, I thought I'd tell you a bit about what she's like. We're not in a solid routine yet (and don't think that we will ever be to be honest) and she naps when she is tired. At the weekends, we make a huge effort to get out and about and she copes with that really well. Being breast fed she is easy to please with regards to feeding - ie no bottles/ formula to take out and about with us. As for naps, we make sure and take her pram with us wherever we go and she sleeps in that.
I'd feel comfortable taking her on a holiday now, she's so much easier than when she was a newborn.
I'm sure you'll have a blast with your little one!
