I have a 9mo staffy/kelpy cross & she really is the loveliest dog BUT I'm ready to kill her!! She eats DD's shoes and its driving me nuts!! THREE pairs now! I let her in the house this arvo & thought she was being good but found she had snuck DDs NEW shoes out and had munched on them. My shoes and DHs shoes are everywhere and don't get chewed - why only DDs? Is it because I'm the alpha that she leaves my shoes alone? I didn't catch her chewing them, she's too smart for that, so I couldn't tell her off about the shoes, though I did shake them at her and YELL a lot I was so furious!!!!
Now DD has no shoes and we have to go out - gum boots it is
It's really not the dogs fault - it needs to be trained, she's still a pup and being kelpie cross, a working dog, she may well be bored and need something to entertain herself. Get some training meanwhile and you need to put the shoes up where the dog can't get them.
My little doggie used to have a special fancy for DD's socks - no-one elses tasted quite so nice or got left on the floor quite so often...
Perhaps train the family to leave shoes in aparticular spot (friend had a big basket in front hall for this purpose) and teach your little doggie to enjoy pet treats like kongs, piggy ears and rawhide treats that take a long time to get thru?
