Yesterday was my first outing with my two kidlets who are now both in cloth (after thinking we'd use up a bag of Huggies someone gave us for our new DS, esp while he was getting out the meconium - what a mistake, we had so many leaks ) and I was a bit overwhelmed at how much stuff I seem to need to carry!
So my question to those who have two or more kids in cloth is how do you manage it, when you plan to be out for a while?
I normally take 4-6 nappies for DD, if we plan to be gone for sort of the whole day, plus tote bag, plus some wet cloth wipies and some dry ones as back up and a spare PUL cover. Adding all of that for DS, plus the extra "newborn" stuff like flat nappies and change of clothes meant my nappy bag was bulging.
I don't want to take less nappies as DD is going through a very heavy wetting phase and we need to change her every 2hrs... or sometimes more...
Should I go to two nappy bags, his and hers style?
I used to have 2 bags. Not his and hers style but a big one in the car with everything I could possibly need and then a smaller one that I carried with me with just the essentials.
Works well if you have easy access to the car (and we always did) but not so great if you're going somewhere on public transport I guess....
Congratulations on the birth of your DS & hats off to you for using cloth already!
I only have one in cloth so hopefully someone with more experience will pop in. But my Kapoochi Carry All nappy bag is pretty big! I'm sure that would fit in everything you need. Or how about giving your DD a little backpack to put a few things in like her drink & snack to take the load off your nappy bag?
I was going to say that even now i keep a stash in the car at all times as i find more than 1 cloth nappy and a wet bag takes up lots of space. If thats not an option you could nappy bag the bits and peices and back pack the nappy stuff or vice versa
Interesting to see what everyone else does as i'll be inthe same situation soon but i plan to still keep extras in the car and get a bigger backpack
I had a standard OiOi nappy bag, which for a full day out with a baby in cloth was just not working for me, and ended up getting an Isoki Bohemian saddle Tote bag which is just enormous!! I'll be able to easily use it when the new baby comes along as well. At the moment I take 6 - 8 modern cloth nappies, flanno wrap, my sling, baby toiletries, 2 changes of clothes, a hat, snacks, and still have oodles of room.
It's also gorgeous, reversible (DH refuses to carry it on it's "pretty" side), and has zip off sections that you can attach to the outside of the bag for even more room. Cannot rate it highly enough. Only thing I hate about it is the change mat, because it's a roll up one it's impossible to get it flat with one hand to lay the baby on, so I pack my OiOi change mat instead
