What sort of things do you claim back on tax??????
Hey everyone,
Just thought I would start a thread to find out what sort of things other people claim back on tax.
I am sure heaps of you out there know of lil things that I don't know about that you can claim for
Here are some of the things I claim:
Dry Cleaing my suits
Home office ie electricity/water etc
my reading glasses
my petrol to & from branches
public transport costs to and from courses
not really sure of any others
This might get interesting
Cant wait to hear what everyone else claims .....................
My glasses are only to be used whilst on the computer, and I am usually only on the computer at work.
My accountant said because I need them to do my job, then I can claim them.
I had never had to wear glasses until I had to sit on a computer 9 hours a day
The stock standard stuff - uniform, washing, safety gear, charities etc plus I also get to claim (for the last time) special zone allowance and also mileage going out to suppliers etc
My DH claims uniforms, washing, tools, fuel expenses as he has to transport his own tools to & from work (he's an electrician), charities and that's probably about it... we also claim our internet and other school related expenses for the kids through the education refund thingo.
Oh forgot we also claim 50% of our internet & mobile as when I was working I was expected to be able to access emails/work servers etc from home and also DH is required to do the same.
good one i never thought of internet. I have to access work stuff from home. Also can i claim my ivf? And im sure someone mentioned out of pocket medical expenses
yeh I'm not sure of the threshold but you can claim back a percentage of anything over it. Might have to research into that too to see if my Ob fees & scans got me over it.
Home office & depreciation on home office items
I study in a field related to work so all those study-related expenses (including travel to source research material)
Once your kids are in school you can claim the education tax rebate thing, so there can also be a portion of things like internet access, home office, etc, claimed against that. Which is handy given the amount of printer ink & paper DD goes through . Likewise a (small) portion of the school fees is claimable (because our school itemises every cent of them and some of it is to pay for books that hte school buys for the kids).
If you engage in any professional development & purchase books/journals etc you can claim the cost of those PLUS also depreciation on the "professional library".
