What do they do exactly that makes them so great and that everyone seems to have one? I was looking at them and found them to be just like a large size hand mixer things except you don't have to stand there holidng it.
So please inform me if and what else there is to it!
They are MUCH more powerful, which means making doughs - breads, pastry, etc - MUCH easier.
Not having to hold them means you can make more complicated recipes, or make easier recipes, easier - making certain deserts, you need to be able to pour sugar syrups etc into beating yolks, much more difficult to control the speed of such things with only one hand. (especially when you have to hold the bowl itself with the other)
They have attachments (depending on the model or brand) like juicers, blenders, and most happily for me - mincers - meaning you can make your own mince, sausages, etc = YUMMO! lol.
They come with beaters (for batters), whisks (for whisking) and dough hooks (for doughs) so make them much more precise, practical, and versatile than hand mixers.
The major bonus though is the power - you simply cannot make many doughs or have them beating for as long (like you need to make many desserts like semi-freddos) as the motors are smaller, weaker and burn out quicker in hand mixers. They are well and truly worth the money.

Thanks Lime slice, think the problem is the ones I saw at the shops today were cheapo ones so I don't think they had all those attchments and things.
They do sound great if I was one to do all that but slack me doesn't make those types things. Altho might inspire me too!
Thanks again for explanation.
I agree with everything Lime said! I've been through 3 cheapo mixers. Last straw was one turning off half way through doing eggs for a sponge cos it got too hot. I laybyed a KA the next day. She is a tank and I love it!
It had an issue that had to be repaired but as it has a 5 year warranty it was happily taken care of Unlike the others that went in the bin! I pined for her while she was gone
