non blanching rash- not meningicoccal what could it be?

DD2 had a non blanching rash on her chest and tummy. it was small reddish brown dots. that night she had a temp and the GP said it was an ear and throat infection and that the rash was related to that. went back for a check up after her antibiotics were finished her rash was still present. this is when she got a little concerned. i had to take my 15month old for a blood test! EEEK! wasnt as bad as i thought it would be but still not a plesant experience. anyhoo.. bloods came back fine. her rash has gone now.
    1) lucky that it wasnt meningicoccal cause poor DD2 would be either gone or super sick by now.. dont you think the GP should have ruled that out at our first visit?

    2) the other possible causes must have been pretty serious to order bloods for a toddler

    3) what on earth could it have been!

Viral rashes can also be petechial (looking like meningococcal) but usually are on the trunk.

Petechial rashes can sometimes result from very high fevers. Viral rashes, on the other hand, are usually blanching, red rashes.

Should the doctor have checked the rash to see if it blanched the first time you were there? I would say yes, he probably should have.

    hey guys,
just wanted your advice again. so its been what 5 months since origianl post. DD has had the same rash in varying degrees (alomst gone, a few here and there, spreading again) ever since. she had a couple of blood tests all came back fine. i took her to a specialist who said it was keratosis pilaris, but the GP and i both dont think this is what it is.

the wierd thing i have noticed that it is related to when she is sick. so for instance it could be almost gone and then all of a sudden i will notice that it is worse and spreading again.. then two-three days later she will be sick with a fever. when i see it getting worse i know she will be sick. she has conjunctivitis and her rash is back so i took her to the GP today and she said she has tonsilitis and an ear infection also. she just hasnt had any temps yet. GP isnt worried, said its related to infection.

has anyone ever heard of this? is there a name for it that i can research etc? i am still worried about it being a non blanching thing and that it hasnt ever completely gone away does it mean that she has some kind of disease or illness that has been left for 5 months to one day show itself in an advanced state. know what i mean?

should i stop worrying? take her to a second specialist? HELP!

I don't have any advice, but my dd gets a rash when her immune system is overloaded (i.e. she has a cold).

Could the rash be a reaction to something else? Is she on anti-biotics for her ear and throat infection? Does she take a probiotic?

yeah she has been on antibiotics before but i dont think it is that because she gets the rash before she is sick and has had it for 5 months on and off. what kind of rash does your DD get when she has a cold?
