1.2kg potatoes peeled and sliced
2 1/2 cups milk
60g butter
1/4 cup flour
2 cups cheese
2 rashers bacon- rind removed and diced.
Melt butter, remove from heat, whisk in flour. Add milk bit by bit stirring constantly. Return to heat, stir continuously till sauce thickens. Add 1 1/2 cups cheese and stir till combined. Add salt and pepper.
Layer 1/3 potato slices on bottom of tray slightly overlapping, top with 1/3 bacon then 1/3 sauce.
Repeat till ingredients finished. Sprinkle with remainder of cheese and bake for 45 mins on 200 degrees celcius.
I guess it might be a bit late for tonights dinner, but here's mine ...
Slice some potatoes (maybe 6 largish) & a couple of onions.
Chop up some bacon, maybe 5 or so rashers.
Layer in casserole dish - potato, onion, bacon, grated cheese. Repeat. Repeat
Every second layer add salt & pepper & a couple of spoonfuls of thickened cream drizzled over the top.
Top with grated cheese. Bake until potatoes are tender (the thinner you slice them the better).
I just layer potatoes, diced bacon, sliced onion, salt&pepper then pour over a tub of cream and top with grated cheese and put in the oven on 180 til it's cooked. If I want it cooked quick I put it in the microwave for 6 mins before I put it in the oven.
I made it and threw in a packets of french onion soup and caramelised some onions to give it a bit more flavour as well and it worked out really well, just meant we had a late dinner
Potato bake is good for that, you can mix it up a bit. Another one - which I actully much prefer - is layered potato, sweet potato, pumpkin & cheese. YUM YUM !!
