Ok, so for the second time, I took missy to a chiropractor to see if it would help with her reflux, and I also think that she has a sore neck (she does it turns out - haha, my mothers intuition is right!!.... anyway, I digress).
She SCREAMED all the way through. It was really traumatic for me and her. I think that her cries were more protest cries to be honest, but by the end of the 15 minutes, they were becoming emotional - not cool.
What to do...... take her back on Monday as advised? Or abandon ship and just leave it.
I don't want to traumatise her unnecessarily - I can't get it out of my head that she is crying so hard - is this akin to "crying it out"? (I'm holding and cuddling her the whole time).
I fast forward 10 years to a totally traumatised child because I took her to a bloody chiro. Drama queen much?
After 15 minutes, she was fine again and is now laughing her head off at me clapping my hands like a stupid thing.
Does she need to do this? Can it wait? Could you try something else?
Is it worth it?
Sorry, can't give you any answers. It's not CIO and it probably won't traumatise her for life, if that's any consolation.
NoWay would I take her back!! IF she was that upset, I wouldn't be risking it, she is so very young still. There may be some underlying problem you are not aware of, and this could be making it painful for her. If you are wanting to take her back I would at least be seeking a second opinion from another chiropractor and/or a dr.
My kids have all cried through their chiro treatments, its to be expected, but they aren't being hurt. They just don't know whats happening and its scary for them.
The best thing you can do is to cuddle them afterwards, it won't last forever, and chiro treatment can really help, especially if she has a sore neck. I wouldn't let my kids go on having a sore neck just because of something upsetting them for 15 minutes, but thats just me I suppose.
I'd probably keep going if it's helping in the long term.
The professional support panel in here has just put on an Osteo..perhaps ask them some questions
If it is helping & a professional has said it's needed then I would prob go again. A child of any age will cry when held down to do something they are no aware of or do not understand, but we are not doing it to hurt them & you are there with them. Lots of love & plenty of cuddles & they know they are safe. You can always can a second opinion too.
My DS got a really bad flat head & had fortnightly physio appts, he didn't like them & cried at times but they were to help him in the long term. His head is much, much better now & physio is all finished.
i'd definately keep up with the treatment!
my daughter is traumatised having to get enemas all the time (bowel problems..), but i'm not going to stop, she needs them for her health.
just make sure you give her a big hug and do something fun afterwards..
Ok, so DH and I decided that it was really going to help missy taking her to the chiro - I told him of some of what you guys had posted.
I took her back today and she was 100 times better than the last visit. Cried for a bit but was very easily distracted from that (by a stuffed singing penguin LOL).
I am soooooo glad that I asked everyone's opinions on this because I just wouldn't have gone back.
Anyway, thanks so much everyone, I feel much better about it all.
