    Talking Antagonist Cycle

    Hi Ladies

Im new to all this, been in and out of here for years, every time we were even thinking of starting to do IVF something were to happen in our personal lives, but hopefully in October it will be the month of new beginnings, well at least the start of them!

Why would someone be put on an antagonist cycle? I saw something about it on the news recently and thought why dont they put women on this to lessen the amount of injections? I asked my SYDIVF to put me on this, but they said that is not the right one for me. Well why not? Wouldnt it be better to be on this cycle at a shorter time rather than for 20 days with a normal cycle? i wont be put on the pill coz I suffer migraines as well.

Anyway, other question, in October we will begin ICSI. After you take injections do you bloat ALOT?

Hi zoimeister!! welcome im not sure why they have the long down cycle and the antagonist cycle but i had the long down cycle but my understanding about it is that they put most ppl on the down regulating cycle and start you off using either lucrin or syneral on day 21 of your cycle to have total control over your hormones and then once you get your next AF they start stimulating with other injections. I guess this cycle is probably the better one to get the best results at egg collection? About bloating, my nurses got me so prepared for it that i thought people would think i put on weight lol but i actually didn't feel any different but when i looked back on the photos (my DH took a photo every night for memories) from when i started injections to right at the end before egg collection i could see in the photos how bloated my belly was, strange i didnt feel any different. But trust me i was terrified when we first started but i found the whole procedure easy and if i have to have another STIM cycle i would be fine with it, if you have a supportive fertility clinic i think it makes the journey easier. Goodluck xx

    Hi zoimeister,
Most fs tend to start on a down reg cycle or a variation of it, from my understanding it allows for better control of the cycle ie ability to adjust level of fsh during the cycle and also ensure your own hormones are at baseline. I have done both, my successful cycle was an antagonist cycle however I don't attribute it's success to this, I have had equally good embies from both.

Wishing you both every success xx
