    charging extra postage

    Hi all,
I dont know if this this fits here, but Im going to give it a go.

Yesterday I bought Miss M a quilt kit that I am going to make for her, its a Maisy mouse quilt absolutely cute as can be.
Anyhow I have spent months searching for the right way to buy it, costs and whether I should buy the material in a kit or individual.
So yesterday I take the plunge a buy the kit from the USA.
On the form it said that it was goignt o cost $US14 for postage. (their site can up with that amount after going through all the steps to buy)
So I bought it, and paid for it through paypal.
I was so excited, I just cannot wait to make this for her, and I really want to make it for her so she can have it on her birthday next month!
Anyhow, this morning I turn the computer on and theres an email waiting for me, which says that the postage is not $US14, but $US45!!!! So they have sent a request to my paypal account.
The postage is now on par with the costs of the quilt, well almost.
But I dont really want to pay the extra postage. And I don't know what to do. They have given me the option to cancel my order. I kinda feel like, well you advertised the price wrong, so maybe you should charge me the original postage and fix your website!

    Anyhow What would you do?

Personally I would cancel. Would you have bought the kit if you knew the postage was going to be that much? And I agree with you, if they can't keep their site up to date, that is their loss not yours.

TBH i would be telling them that you will only pay the ADVERTISED PRICE, this is what their website said and that is what you have paid, if their website is not up to date it is not your responsibility and they should HONOUR what was offered.

GL hun, hope you either get hte kit for that price or cancel and tell them you want a bonus for the stuff up

that sounds about right for postage from the US to be honest. international postage is exxy (even the slowest post)

if you really want the kit, you'll either have to wear the price or order it elsewhere

If you don't want to pay it then cancel

I'd say their postage advertised on the site was for US orders, and yep, $45US does seem right for international. The prices of products are generally great but the postage really hurts! I'd cancel, and let them know that they really should have something on their site that lets customers know international postage estimates. Or at least something that says that international postage is a lot more than the advertised rate!

    thank you all so much!

Leasha, the postage that I paid originally is the international postage charge. When i wwas doing the checkout, I clicked international, gave them all my info, and then it said what type of shipping I wanted. I clicked on international, and it said it was $14.

This is what the email said:

"We have recieved your order for the Maisy quilt kit. For some reason the shipping did not come up correctly. You were only charged $14.00 and it shoud be $45.00. I will send you a request for the extra shipping through paypal. If you prefer to cancel your order please just let me know. I apologize for the confusion. "

At the same time I realise the postage would cost around this much, well most other sites I have looked at charge around the $30 mark.

But I suppose as ZF said, Im paying the advertised price, Im paying the shipping that their website stated at the time of payment. Now the postage payment is triple what they originally stated. I suppose thats where my beef is with them!

This has been months in the making, and I really want it for Miss M. So Im off to search the internet for a betterish deal! (especially before I reply to them!)

OH! Well, I'd be asking them how it's a 'mistake' that they're website advertised $14, then it came up with $14 as postage, and THEN once you've already decided you want the product, they ask for more money! Sounds like they know how to draw in the customers and score some extra cash! Lure them with cheap postage, and reel in the extra when most people think "oh I just want the item, I'll pay the extra"!

    Thank you all;

So I just sent them an email back stating that I will not be paying the extra postage, and that I shouldn't be required to since it was their websites fault. I gave them the choice to either fill my order as is or return my monies in full asap.
I have found another place that at most is going to be $20 more than the original price I paid through this site. And I could end up saving a bit of money too depending on how I go about it
