    Question Detox

What are your experiences with detoxing?

What did you do? Did it work?

How long did you do it for?

I've only heard negative things about detoxing - especially with products like the lemon detox diet. From peoples livers giving up on them, getting the shakes (from not eating), not being able to concentrate etc. You'll lose water weight, then muscle mass - any excess fat won't be touched.

You can't go past healthy eating and extra excercise

I had to do a two-week detox a few years ago when I was on a weightloss plan with my new gym... What a disaster! I essentially wasn't allowed to eat/drink anything but dry crackers and water (everything else on the plan I don't eat, so I only ate what I did from it.) I got to the end of the first week, and I called my nan from TAFE in hysterical tears, begging her to bring me some fish & chips. One of my friends tried to take one of the chips and I lost it at him and didn't talk to him for a whole week. Sure, I lost a lot of weight, but I almost lost my mind too because all I thought of was food and this stupid diet I was on.

If you want to do something like a detox, then speak to a professional, a doctor, dietician, naturapath etc, do one that will not put stress on your body, one that will actually support your organs while they're "detoxing" them.

You should only do it under the guidance of a professional. I would also wait until your hormones have settled down from after the birth. Let them leave on their own. In fact I doubt anyone (with a brain) would suggest detoxing so soon after having a baby.

I did one, a sensible one, just after we got married, and I LOVED it. It was not radical at all, and rather than focusing on getting stuff out, it just focused on not letting any new toxins in, effectively giving your body some time to catch up on eliminating what was in there.

    Pretty basic:
    No booze (easy!)
    No caffeine
No sugar (this means white, brown, glucose, fructose, corn syrup, nada.)
No numbers (so you check all your ingredients lists, and don't eat anything that has numbers in it)
Nothing with more than four ingredients in its list (so, basically, nothing processed ITMS)

It also included no dairy, but I wouldn't recommend that just yet. If you feel fully confident that you can replace it successfully, and still get your high poatpartum RDI, then go for it, but it has taken me a long time to get to this stage, without a newborn to look after as well!

No supplements, no rubbish, just loads and loads of fruit and vegetables and fresh, whole, healthy foods. Organic where you can.
