just wondering how much other 6 month old babies sleep. DS has decided that 2 x half hour naps per day is enough for him and he can stay awake until 8-9pm at night all of a sudden. i did have him sleeping 3-4 x half hour naps during the day and going down between 6-7pm every night up until the last couple of nights. i am not sure if this is a phase he is going thru or not. finding it frustrating tho considering he was good up until recently.
TIA
xx

My DS2 goes down for sleeps at around 9-9.30am, then about 12-1pm then about 5pm. Each time i aim for minimum 1hr, most of the time he does, but sometimes- like this morning he'll only have 40mins, I couldn't get him to have anymore (i'll go in and put his dummy back in, put his musical seahorse on and walk out saying "shhh"). But then this arvo he woke after 40mins and did go back to sleep for another hour. And then sometimes he'll have 2hrs in the morning and arvo with no encouragement. When he goes down at 5pm though I'll usually wake him about 6.15-6.30pm to have dinner, last feed and put in sleeping bag and back in bed by 7.30-8pm, where he'll sleep til 6.30-7am with 1-3wakes in between (last 3 nights its only been the 1 wake up, so hopefully he can keep this up). From what i can remember (but sadly it wasn't that long ago- i've just got a shocking memory at the moment) DS1 was in a similar routine. In saying that- because of DS1, DS2's sleep routine can vary abit depending on our plans for the day, but i aim to get at least 1 of the day sleep in at home. With DS1 i always found the better he slept during the day the better he slept during the night. The jury's still out on that theory with DS2- but going on the last few nights it could be right with DS2.

It may be growth spurt time, some bubs will stay awake heaps, some will sleep heaps. Their sleep routine continues to change for ages, by next week it could be completely different again.
DD2 sleep 7.30pm till 9.30am. Then has one 45 min nap and one 1 1/2 nap during the day.
We get 3 sleeps out of Willow per day, usually around an hour although sometimes she will have a random 2 hour morning or afternoon sleep - this is fairly rare.
We have a 'Sleep and Settle' lady in our area and she advocates parents should aim for a 1.5hr sleep. Sometimes we get this, other times we just get one sleep cycle (40 minutes).
Willow is awake at 6-6:30am.
Sleep around 8:30-9am
Sleep around 12:30 - 1pm
Sleep around 4:30-5pm
Willow goes down of a night at around 8pm
Much like Bec7, I try to give her one sleep at home in her cot and the others can just fit in with what we are doing (maybe in the pram, at Nanna's or in the car seat).
Willow has always slept really well of a night, so I've not pushed her days sleeps ... even when we have a string of days where she "micro sleeps". I'd be concerned to push her to sleep longer during the day and mess with her wonderful night time sleeping.
Having said all this ... I bet she changes her routine next week
Missy has decided that 7pm bedtime is for sissies and we are awake till 9pm this past week.
She has a nap in the morning, one over lunch and usually one around 4.30pm so I am thinking I'll drop the 4.30pm one today and see how we go. It was 9pm by the time she went over to sleep last night!! Overnight she is a awake 2-3 times for a feed but we co-sleep and just drift back off to sleep.
She sleeps till around 5.30am-6am and then is awake for an hour and back to bed for an hour.
I can never pick it though, just when I think that we are in the swing of things, she changes it!!
I have found over time nap changes do change with time ,how long they sleep for and when they go down.
I have always just got by what DD wants to do with day sleeps, if she shows me she is tired i put her in her sleeping bag and see if she will fall asleep( always on me ) then i will her down..if she sleeps for 10 mins or 1 hours or 3 hours thats up to her .
I trust her and that she knows how long she needs to sleep, if she wakes up and then is tired 5 mins later and wants sleep then she gets sleep.
Now that she is 6 months i dont let her go to sleep after 4, sometimes that cant be helped but i try to have the last nap of the day by then, she has her bath etc and is bed by 7-8 each night. If its been one of those days when she has had to have a later nap ,then she will be in bed later that night, it all deoends on how the day has panned out with sleeps .
normally its in bed 730, ,up for the mornng at 6-7 nap at about 9-930 then around lunch time then about 3ish
I say trust your baby, thry know when they need sleep, also growth spurts teething diff things will push them out of there normal habits for a while
As you know I've had problems with Cam's day time sleeps. He will have a 40-45 minute nap in the morning (if I am very lucky it's 1 hour) then a 30-40 minute nap at around 2 pm and lately a wee nap at around 5 pm. He is in bed by 7-7.30 and wakes around 7 am.
Usually it's like this :
Bedtime 7 - 7.30 pm (sometimes he sleeps right through, most nights I'm up once or twice to put the dummy back in)
Up at 7 am
Back to bed at 8 am, up at 9 am
Sleep at 11 am till 11.45 am
Sleep at 2 pm till 2.30-2.40 pm
Lately a nap at 5 pm till 5.30 pm
He never used to have the 5 pm nap and he was sometimes wanting to go to bed at 6 pm. That was way too early for us so we give him a nap now at 5 pm but he is still tired at 7 pm.
The thing is, the MCHN told me that if he only sleep for 30 minutes or less he won't get his deep sleep. So a few times when he only managed a 30 minute sleep, he would still be tired half an hour later........grumpy and rubbing his eyes, but not wanting to go to sleep.
