My DH is a dreamer and over spender :P Long story short, before we were married he decided to go bankrupt at the time it was the best idea, and 18 months ago the bank gave us the money to buy our first home FANTASIC (i thought) sadly DH is no longer satified hes moved on to bigger and better dreams
He has his eye on an acre block of land, that hes researched, even to the point of getting out and inspecting it (which i refused to do, find it a bit embarrising esp if im not really into the whole idea of creating more money problems) looked into soil, council, slopes etc
Which now leads me to report he wants a KIT HOME ..... Believes hole heartedly he can do it himself eventhough hes been doing odd jobs and cant manage to finish them. The "shell" without anything inside, doors or windows costs $50k he believes it will cost another 50k to finish it somehow i doubt that looking on other websites they need almost 3 X the orginal cost of the "shell" to finish (5 bedroom 2 story house lol). He wants us to live in a shed onsite (with 3 kids mind you) in the middle of summer and aparently this will only take 2 weeks to put together (more like 3 months to make it liveable)
Don't have a kit home, but (and I mean this in the kindest way possible ) that sounds like a really terrible idea You've only owned your home for 18 months, you've only just gotten the bank to lend you money after being bankrupt, you have three children, living in a shed will be terrible in the middle of summer. I'm sorry but unless your DH is a builder or something, it just will take longer than two weeks. It doesn't sound like he's leaving much room for error here. The behaviour you describe him having, not finishing odd jobs, his being a dreamer and over-spender...I just think it sounds over ambitious and way too risky, to your family and relationship. Why does he want to move on so fast from the home you've just bought? I really hope I haven't offended you, just my two cents.
I have to agree with PZ here, it sounds like your husband lacks the commitment to finish the job. Not to mention then many hurdles he probably hasn't thought of
