    Rolling at 5 weeks!!??

DD yesterday & 3 times today showed us she can roll from her back to her side & almost to her front except her bottom arm is in the way, while lying on a rug on the floor. She was certainly trying to get to her tummy. She did it quickly too. This seems very early to me. We currently swaddle her-which she doesn't like much but sleeps better as a result.
I'm guessing swaddling will prevent her from rolling in her sleep, we've also taken to proping pillows on either side of her in bed to ensure she can't roll. I think she is still ok on the change table as it has angled sides. Show there be anything else we should be cautious of at this stage?

for Freya!! What a smart little cookie
you can get a double wedge type thing with mesh in between that keeps them in place, but swaddling should do the trick for now. just be aware of it if you are putting her down somewhere - like the bed or the couch.... I know DD fell off the couch when she was about 8 weeks old because we *cough* forgot

Oops! Hopefully it was a soft landing...
Think we will use a snuggle bed & see if that is more secure!

    What a strong little lady!
    They're resilient little things, though

It was - we cried for longer than she did!
I have to say Dusty that after all the times over the past couple of years I have looked at your sig, with all the issues you had TTC, it always brings a smile to my face to see that gorgeous little face there

Ohhh, are you *really* surprised that your lady phoenix is a total genius? I'm pretty sure Einstein rolled at six weeks.... Actually, I know I did. But that was back in the day when babies were allowed to do that in their beds.

I had some experience while nannying with the Safe-T-Sleep - quite successful with a little guy right up until he was 10 months old. He'd roll onto his tummy, and couldn't get back so he'd wake up cranky. We used that, and he was great, champion sleeper. (Interestingly, his twin brother didn't need it and couldn't care less. The kid would sleep hanging from the ceiling fan if you let him!) It's basically a fitted sheet with a wid velcro belt that goes around their torso. It looks pretty snuggly.

Wrapping should keep her pretty safe for now - stops her using her arms for leverage.

DS2 rolled at 3 weeks, and did it for about a month, then stopped and started again at about 6 months. He is almost 5 now and we certainly think he is a smart cookie Just be wary of anything within rolling reach and you will be fine.

Dusty, DD1 did it at that age and it completely freaked us out and I was up twice as much checking on her overnight LOL. So I just rolled up two terry flats to put beside her and then put the cot sheet over the top to hold them there and that did the trick. Mind you she did go on to crawl at 4.5 months old...
