Question We have answers - Hints & Tips moving forward?

We got into RCH for DD'2 allergy testing and had the skin ***** test done today, it came back positive to DAIRY ALLERGY and was borderline for both egg & peanut (both rated a 3)

So we have been given 2 Epi Pen's.. 1 for home and 1 to carry with her at all times and some fact sheets on how to manage her allergy along with a request to come back in 6mths and re-test.

So moving forward what can i do, i am thinking i should get her one of the anephelaxis (sp?) bracelets for when we go to parties or public events etc (in the rare instance she's not attached to me so no-one gives her food).

What else can i do to make this easier for both her and myself?

We are going to try her on soy formula as the paed said not straight soy milk before 12mths and as she is fully b/d there is no other way of testing if soy yoghurt etc will be ok, basically doing 1ml at a time by syringe.

They say 40% of kids with a milk allergy CAN also be allergic to soy so please please keep your fingers crossed for us.

So any hints or tips to make our lives easier would be VERY helpful... any recipes etc you can share or experiences would be great.

    TIA.

My only experiences with a dairy intolerant child is that she has a label on her drink bottle with her name, and also the fact that she is dairy intolerant.

Sorry can't be of more help. Glad you have answers now though, it must be a relief. Oh, and there is egg replacement (powder I think) at the supermarket so you can make cakes, etc.

do you need to try soy prior to 12 months?? maybe look into oat or rice milk after 12 months and save buying formula

I am not 100% they have said avoid ALL dairy products, anything with milk solids or milk powder aswell.
The only reason i wanted to try the soy now was to be able to maybe try and give her soy yoghurt so she can have something other than fruit etc.

I am lucky enough to be BFing still and will do so for as long as she needs... it's the best thing for her allergy and for my stress level but i wouldn't mind 'knowing' about the soy JIC we do need to wean at any stage.

Thanks hun, i might try a rice pudding, would it work with soy?
The Paed wants me to try soy first and said to try and stay away from rice milk until we know if she can tolerate soy, he'd prefer that as a last resort...

I love BB, the support from everyone is brilliant.. we should make our own BB allergy cookbook.... am a little worried about IF i ever have to use the Epi.. i know how to and i know i can do it.. just kinda hoping i never have to.

Yeah they said about 40% who have dairy have soy, they tested her with the skin ***** and said it didn't react but it may be different after digesting it... i'm to try rubbing it on her lip first and then 1ml at a time.... i guess i have to test things to be sure but i will def look into the oat milk etc..
