Lots of bleeding but baby alive on u/s very upset and worried

well, the title pretty much says it all. had some sharp pains this morning, then felt a little gush. checked and there was bright, fresh blood. then the blood started increasing to the point where it soaked through my liner and into my jeans. totally freaked out and thought i had miscarried. OB fitted me in for a scan this afternoon, and baby is alive, good HB, cervix closed. it's a 'threatened miscarriage'. Am still bleeding a bit this evening.
i really don't know what to think, and am very confused and worried. Does the fact that the baby is OK now mean that this pg is more likely to work out, or am I still at high risk of losing it? I can't believe that I could bleed this much, and things could still be OK.
Any positive stories or support greatly appreciated.
*sigh* I can't believe that this might happen to me again

Honeybee, afraid I don't have experience - either good or bad, but I just want to say that I am so cross with the universe for putting you through this and I will be keeping my fingers tightly crossed and praying for all I'm worth that this will work out ok!

You've seen a healthy baby despite all this, surely that is a good sign!
    Fingers crossed! Try to relax.

you are in my thoughts hun
i don't know exactly what it means but i know i've read many times that threatened miscarriage means you need to take it easy (not easy with a toddler). it may be that you had a clot or a partial seperation of the placenta, or just that your placenta has hit a nice healthy blood vessel.

thinking of you - take care

hugs, how scary for you. with my first pg at about 8/9 weeks i had a bleed, bright fresh blood, not as much as you described but enough for me to be worried and go to the GP. i was told it was a threatened mc and my daughter is now 2 yrs old!!! Fingers crossed for you and your little bubba!

Honeybee, when I was pg with DD1 (so second pg as well), I had a big bleed at 12 weeks. I was terrified because I wasn't expecting it and I had never had a loss before so I didn't know what to think. Luckily I had the nuchal scan in a few days and the bleeding stopped after a day and I don't think I have ever been so scared in my life. When we went in for the scan, I prepared myself for the worst, that there would be no HB, but there she was, kicking away and absolutely perfect. It turns out that the bleed came from the placenta, but there was still excellent blood flow through the cord and HB was great so my Gyno (he is also an ob and does morph scans etc) was pretty confident that the pg would be fine and provided I took it easy for the next week or so there should be no further problems.

I'm sure that if bubs HB is still strong and the cervix is closed that things will be fine I know it is scary, but just rest as much as you can - not easy when you have a toddler I know, and take care OK.

I had 2 bleeds early on in this pregnancy. The second was like a full on period. Like you we rushed off to the clinic and saw a HB. There was a clot or something.
The fact that you have a strong HB & closed cervix is really positive. Try and rest if you can

    Big hugs.
I've had the same thing with my DD. Massive amounts of blood and she was still alive. Ended up being a subchonic heamatoma (blood filled sac near my baby).
She's now nearly 17 months old.
It's hard not to worry. Rest up and take it easy and I'm sending lots of sticky vibes your way!

Cervix closed is great and is obviously seeing your babies heartbeat! Try to take it easy and hopefully the bleeding will stop completely overnight.

Have they told you to go back or anything if it continues ?

    Best of luck Hun,

HB, thankfully the doctor reassured you and everything is okay with your little baby.
I'm so sorry that you experienced the scare.
I pray that everything with bubba is thriving and healthy.
    Rest up and take care,

    Big big big

I understand the absolute fear that runs through your veins when you have a big red bleed, I am glad that you have had a scan that has come back with some very positive signs, a strong HB, and a closed cervix.
Rest up as much as you can, I know how hard it can be with a toddler, but even lie on the couch and do lots of reading stories and puzzles etc.

Take care hun and thinking of you xxoo

HB and closed cervix is a great sign. Very scary times, but not necessarily bad news.

It can happen and result in a healthy pregnancy - my sister is living proof of it, mum had a threatened miscarriage with her, and was on bedrest, and she got a nanny for me in that time (who is now a midwife that I communicate with at least weekly) She had placenta praevia with that pregnancy, and that was later deemed to be the cause of the bleeding early on.

    Fingers are crossed for you!
