dog won't eat out of his new bowl!

Bought our dog a new ceramic (Maxwell & Williams..fancy! Lol) dog bowl the other day because the plastic one he has had since he was a puppy has a big crack in it...
Normally he eats everything in his bowl and it's gone in about 5 mins (or less!). The first night he had his new bowl I went out the next morning and he hadn't eaten anything...I showed it to him again and he had a little nibble but didn't seem interested at all. So that afternoon because he hadn't eaten for 24 hours I put a little bit into the plastic bowl (haven't tossed it yet) and he scoffed it down..so obviously he is hungry or wants to eat but there's something about his new bowl he doesn't like...

He ate a bit more of his dinner last night, but there's still some left this morning. Should I just keep persevering with it? I don't want him to starve, but I just spent money on a nice bowl for him and he seems to hate it! I haven't washed it in any chemicals, just rinsed it out in warm water. maybe the ceramic feels funny on his mouth/tongue? But then it wouldn' tbe until he got to the end of his meal that he would feel the bottom of the bowl..

He did a similar thing when we were at my parents a few weeks ago, only mum had out a giant saucepan for him which was quite deep and I thought maybe he just didn't like having to put his whole head in the bowl

Dogs can be so weird, my dog has a similar issue.. I have two containers for water, they are identical, but he can only drink from one.. he gets so thirsty but would rather wait for hours for me to refill one than drink from the other.
He also takes food from his bowl and drags it to the grass to eat.
I don't know what you can do really.. persevering hasn't helped with my dog. But give it more time, and perhaps let him get really hungry and then put something really tasty in the bowl, on top of the uneaten food.

How nice of you to buy your dog such a fancy new bowl. He's so unapreciative - LOL! I think it might be just a matter of time until he gets used to it. But have no fear he won't starve to death, just leave his food in his bowl and when he gets hungry he will eat it. I'd say he's just one of those dogs who doesn't like change.

Just another thought - Is the tag from his collar banging on the bowl when he eats? If it is maybe he's getting a bit of a fright hearing that sound when he's never heard it before eating from his other bowl.

it was on sale, so not that nice of me Lol.

It might be his tag...didn't think of that. Will try and remember to take his collar off tonight and see if that makes a difference. He did have his old bowl for 2 1/2 years so might just take him some time to get used to something different.

Turtleschell- isn't that funny about the identical water bowls! He will even eat dried fruit (thanks to DD chucking it off her highchair..lol) so was a bit of a shock to see him not eat at all!
