Do I have to use cornflour?

I want to make a yogo recipe and it asks for cornflour but I don't have any. Can I use plain or self raising instead?
    Thanks muchly :-)

I would say you need cornflour for the consistency. The others flours might make it too thick or lumpy?

The only yogo I know is the chocolate pudding/yoghurt type dessert so I thought that was it?

ETA - just had a google and it is that! I didn't realise it was something you could make yourself though, but I found a recipe too and might give it a go myself.

Just googled it, yup Trill, seems you're on the money! I would use plain flour, not self raising. You might need to mix a bit of the liquid mixture in with the flour first to make a paste, then add it to the pot so you don't get lumps iykwim, but it should work ok. Cornflour would blend in easier, but both will work to thicken the custard/yogo stuff! Wont alter the taste.

I am often with cornflour and use plain flour as a substitute.

It will work with plain flour if it is a cooked recipe, if it isn't it may not.

Not that you probably have any, but you can substitute Arrowroot flour for cornflour and it gives a better result too.

    Thanks for your responses.
Yup, how good does it sound trill? Did you find it on best recipes?
I think I'll just buy some cornflour tomorrow - safer that way lol

Junglemum, it's a chocolate custard desert thingy haha. It's in the dairy section of supermarkets and is pretty exxy, thought I may as well give it a go

Yep Ubba, that was the one I found. My kids love it too, but I hate buying it at the supermarket - expensive and full of crap but being able to make your own is a good alternative.
