Hmmm, I'm not sure but I've always like the idea of calling them Guardian Angels.

Edit: and I just looked it up in the Wikipedia and Guardian Angels was developed in Christianity so that doesn't help. I just found the terms 'guide parents' or 'supporting adults' or under Naming Ceremonies, I found this:

In Australia, a naming ceremony is a possible secular alternative to a Church Christening. It is a welcoming ceremony to the child. Parents may still choose godparents if desired, or these may be referred to under a different title, such as mentors.

You can call them anything, but I think they are usually called Guide Parents

I have no idea, but I'd like to see other people's ideas! When my brother & I were born my Mum picked really obscure god parents, for reasons I cannot fathom. But my parents' best friends were listed on their will to take us if anything should happen to them, and we called them Aunty & Uncle. To be honest we've always been closer to them than any of our actual aunties & uncles, and definitely closer than our god parents!! I reckon our children will call our close friends aunty & uncle, I kind of like it

Depends on why you want a non-religious god parent? Technically, a god parent isn't a person who takes your child if something happens to you. They are the ones who say that they will take responsibility of their religious education. I think.

Anyway, is that what you want? Someone to take guardianship of your children's religious education?
I'd like a 'religious guardian' (LOVE 'Guide Parents') except I don't have anyone willing to lead Jazz through all the different religions, which sort of sucks, but thats ok.

Or do you mean a guardian to your kids if something happens to you and your partner? I'd probably just call the a guardian. 'Guardian Angel' is cute for that sense. You could always make something up yourself.

In our naming ceremonies we call them guardian parents.

We don't recognise god, so it seems silly to refer them as godparents, however, when asking them thats what we asked if they would be cos most people just look at you with a "huh" expression on their face if you ask them to be a guardian parent.

We got that name off a pagan website I think? Long time since we researched it. We just used the same ceremony from 3 years ago with both the girls in August.

DD had her naming day on the weekend and we chose to just use the term 'godparents' after much deliberation! But other options we found were spiritual advisers, guardians, mentors, guides.
