Last night before bed DH switched the heater off. This morning he told me he got up to go to the toilet and he frequently visits the fridge, he noticed the heater was on but not the fan. It was definately off, I saw him turn it off. The only thing we can think of is one of the kids has gotten up and turned it on. Now to find out which one it is.
