    Sodastream

does anyone have one, or have used one before? are they any good? do the drink flavours taste ok? i'm just thinking coz it might be a good idea for a Chrissy present for my brother, but i just want to know what people think of it, if they liked it or didn't like it. not sure how much the drinks are worth though. the system i can get for around $60 which seems pretty good....thanks

I'm just subbing as I've been thinking of getting one. Does it work out cheaper, I wonder?

yeh, that's what i want to know, if it's cheaper and better tasting, or if it's just worth buying the ones from the supermarket....

we got one months ago because I always wanted one as a kid but the novelty wore off very fast. Some of the flavours are a bit gross and the cola one tastes nothing like pepsi or coke. We are not the biggest softdrink drinkers so maybe it would be better if you where.

I love ours! DH got it for Xmas last year and we use it all the time, I use the SS flavours and love the raspberry and cranberry lite, but TBH cordial is just as good and cheaper. The only hassle is refilling the bottle, it isn't as simple as just buying a new one, you have to go to places like Harvey Norman that actually can refill it for you. I think it is totally worth it if you like fizzy drinks (which I am a sucker for) and sweeties like cordial etc.

ETA: It is worth it if you aren't going to replace Coke, nothing replaces that, hidiously awful that it is for you, Cola flavours just don't cut it, so we buy others.

We had a soda stream as kids and we drank it every day. We used cordial for flavouring too.

My parents got one for my kids but they didn't like the taste of it and never used it. I ended up giving it to my dad and he uses it every day to make lemon lime & bitters.

hmmm, I'm still trying to decide. I just mentioned that the cola doesn't taste like coke or pepsi, but he reckons neither does the cola I buy him (Aldi, homebrand etc). Does it taste like that? And does it work out to be just as cheap?

We got one last year and we love it! the flavourings are approx $4.60 at Big W and we tend to by 5 at a time becuase they go quick (from the store)

We love the raseberry, cola and cola zero, lemonade (bit blerg but the kids like it) and the orange one.

We make sure that we have 4 bottles filled with water in the fridge at all times. Its a great bribe for the kids and htey never ask for drinks when we go out any more

You exchange the gas bottles at coles ande big W I think but we jsut take them back to Harvey Norman (where we got it from) and its $10 to refil.

For me...its a blessing...kids dont nark me to buy soft drink in summer all the time and they know that a few times a week we make 2 bottle of soft drink as a treat

I used to love ours as a kid, till one night the gas cyclinder exploded as I was using it. Never had a sodastream since and will never have one again.

we have one and absolutely LOVE it!! its so handy having cold water in the fridge, friends pop over, you ask "want a drink" and they say "yes a fizzy drink would be awesome", whip out the soda stream, get the bottle of cold water from the fridge and voila!! fizzy drink within 1 minute. i had gestational diabetes when i was pg and could drink the normal stuff too without going out and getting the diet and no sugar stuff. we have even put several family and friends on to it!!! HIGHLY recommend them

Have you tried Kmart for the refills? we go to kmart and now our local foodland refills them too. not sure where you live but maybe ask them if they do it.

we have one, got it just recently, DP made me promise not to buy coke anymore if we got this, I am proud to say that I went cold turkey on the cans of coke (2 can a day addiction) we bought all the flavoursbut to be honest I dont like them, they all have that "fake" artificial flavouring taste (not surprising, they all contain artificial sweeteners!) we tend to buy the bickfords cordials, brown lime, lemon barley etc, yummmo!

its great when we have barbies or people over with kiddies who want a "fizzy" not as sickly sweet as commercial soft drinks, we also bought 4 extra bottles (came with 2)
so there is always cold water in the fridge to refill.

Refill gas canisters are available from kmart, big w and foodland that I know of. around $12.

    Best thing weve bought recently!

also the guy said when we bought it that 1 cannister = around 40litres of fizz, but it depends on how fizzy you like it!

wow! i never knew so many people had one! i was the only one out of my friends and such when i was a kid, lol.

my parents have had one since i was a kid!

i reckon it works out FAR cheaper, because apart from the $60-$70 or so u spend buying it,
and the new gas cylinders are around $6 from k-mart and last quite a while, u really dont spend much!

my mum and dad always just used to buy cordial, its way cheaper and that way you can get the flavours you like and want, a much bigger variety rather than having to go by what sodastream recommend and charge (which is wayy more expensive than just buying cordial!)

i think they're an awesome buy TBH! and when we move again we will definitely be buying one. well worth it!
