I collected DD from daycare on Friday. Her carer had noticed a fever about half an hour before I picked her up. All weekend she's had a cough, runny nose and her breath has been kind of crackly. Her temp has been around 38C since Friday. It responds to panadol which I've only been giving if DD has seemed uncomfortable. She's been pretty sleepy all weekend, but has had moments in between of being her usual self. I'm pretty sure it's just a cold and was willing to wait it out.
Today though, she's been very sleepy. She hasn't even complained when I've changed her nappy or taken her temp. Her temp 2 hours ago was up to 39.1. I'm concerned that she is refusing to breastfeed. I've got an appointment with the GP for tomorrow morning even though I doubt there's much they can do. I'm pretty sure it's viral and it's a matter of waiting it out. Do you think I should be more concerned?
Thanks Sally. That's what my gut says but DH is worried (and he's usually the chilled out one).
I gave her some panadol when I took her temp at 1pm. She was able to sleep peacefully and had a good feed when she woke up. I'm much less worried now that she's feeding. I think this is the first time she's ever refused the breast.
Can you call the GP and see if you can't be squeezed in this arvo?? Just tell them she's getting worse. That's what I do love about my GP... if they're like your DD, he'll get them in. I'd be a little concerned about her lethargic ways and refusing BF.... if you can't get into GP today then I'd keep a close eye on her, keep up the panadol and offer her BF to try to keep her fluids up... that's an important one... keeping up fluids. Keep us updated and I hope she starts to get better fast.
.... Must've been posting at same time!!! Good that she's had a better rest and BF. Still keep an eye on her as of course you will, so kinda goes without saying doesn't it lol. Poor little poppet.
It has been going on for a few days, and it sounds as though she is becoming listless, based on what you wrote earlier. But she has since had a good feed, I would be keeping a close eye on her, it may be that she has just peaked her temp and is on the improve or she may have just hit a "good patch" and may struggle again...
Sorry I probably haven't been much help, take care xxoo
My DD has a similar thing.. Temps going up since Saturday night.. She hasnt been eatting much at all, and rather sleepy.. Temps get up to 39.3 and then panadol kicks in..
Yesterday I gave her panadol every 4 hours. Today I have been just watching her temps and so far she has only had one temp spike at 38.8.
I have been giving DD those icy polls (gastro light ones/fruit juice ones), glucose lollies and plenty of water..
I know your dd is a little young but IM sure you can give her those gastro icy polls.. The hospital recomended them last time dd had high temps..
So I took DD to the doctor this morning. We've been given antibiotics for ear infection. Hopefully they'll help. She's still quite whingy and sleepy but has been feeding well and doesn't seem as listless as yesterday. Her temp has stayed down so far today even though her last dose of panadol was last night.
Good to hear she's been feeding better today. Ear infections are awful. Elijah has had a few of them and one was really bad, in fact, the doc said "horrific"... he had no symptoms other than a temp. Hopefully tomorrow she'll be even brighter again
