How do I know if She's Ready?

Briley is due to start Prep next year and I've only just been and seen a local primary and picked up some enrollment forms.

    I'm scared though!

How do I know if she is ready or not?

    Help!!

    I hear ya.

I'm struggling with this in a big way. We have a similar system (just called a different name). Darc meets the cutoff and academically is great (she aced the assessment the principle says that is rarely passed) but her preschool teachers reckon socially and emotionally she's not ready.
We're having a meeting with them tomorrow to talk about it. The school wants to meet in November to push their case (for us to send her).

There were two kickers for me. In transition there are kids that have been held back and will be 6 in the February - whereas Darc wouldn't turn 5 even until the May. Then there was the 'can she use a computer?" because apparently they do their maths programs on the computer ....she's too little to be insitutionalised I think....

    so that's where we're at....no idea....

I'm glad to know that I'm not the only feeling this way Kim!

I think my plan will be to enrol Briley and if come Feb, I feel she's not ready, I'll just pull her out.

I know she's a clever girl but I think it might be the social and emotional aspect of her that worries me.

She's never consistently gone to Kindy so hasn't the regular socialisation with other kids and people. On top of that there is the stuff thats going on with B and I. Although we are both on the same page as to how to keep things as stable and routinely as possible for both girls.

So my plan for now is too send the girls 3 days a week to kindy with no disruptions except usual holidays like Chrissy etc.

Then comes the issue of pants wetting, responsibility of belongings etc.

The thing that worries me the most is how aware she will be that she is quite independent at school. I worry on petty things like what if the bell goes and she doesnt realise she has to go to class. Or does she know she needs to put her shoes in her bag once she's taken them off or finding friends to eat lunch with. Petty I know but these are my concerns

We are going to an orientation next Friday so I will be drilling them on questions then!

    Good luck hun.

I'm glad that we can ride these journies together!
