It seems that DD1 (4yo) is always getting worms! At least every second month we get woken by her crying and screaming that her bottom hurts and we have to give her combantrim. I have also tried putting rectinol on her bottom to numb the pain (as it has an anaesthetic in it). This seems to work after about an hour - hence why I am up at the moment
Does anyone have any advice on anything that works quickly to help stop the agony she is in? Or anything we can do to stop her from continually getting them? It's driving me crazy (not to mention poor DD1).
It doesn't taste too nice but a np told me to take 1/4 teaspoon of clove powder every day. It will stop eggs from being produced. It's all natural. I would also take a probiotic this np was onto detox and hardcore cleansing. I also had to give up shell fish and pork.
He was very wacko so. Also practice good hygiene ie hand washing.
Make sure that you're washing all your sheets at the same time as worming her and hanging them in the sun to dry.
Are you worming yourself? They're sneaky so you need to worm the whole family plus your pets.
If they keep recurring I thi that maybe pre-emotive worming might be a good idea.
Also make sure it is worms not 'roids or irritation from soap or washing powder.
Also make sure that her fingernails are always short - the eggs can get under the fingernails and definitely do all the family at the same time and every time you have to do it strip the bed like Onyx said. They are a nuisance but unfortunately they are easily spread, she is more likely getting them from other kids/people who aren't washing their hands properly.
are you doing a follow up course a fortnight later? It takes that long for their whole life cycle to die.
Also doing a damp dust of everything in her immediate living area and then throwing away the cloth. Getting rid of toothbrushes for new ones when you worm in case the eggs are getting in that way.
Are you sure it's worms? Might be worth getting her checked at the drs to make sure there's not some other sort of bum/poo problem going on as well. Like pp have said, strip and wash all bedding, towels, pjs, underwear in hot hot water. Keep those fingernails short and clean. And definitely treat all the family members, twice.
We just had them here a few weeks ago too with Iz hun. Horrible and such a PITA to wash and dry everything in hot. We did towels, sheets, undies, pjs over 24 hours to make sure the tablets had kicked in. I had no idea we had to treat in a fortnight though?? The pharmacist never mentioned it when we had a big chat about it all. Sorry to hijack Nai - do you have to rewash everything as well??
I guess you could do the torch at night and check to see if it really is that or something else as MD mentioned.
The other thing I did was to spray down every surface and door handle with Eucalyptus oil, which I use as a spray cleaner anyway.
Thanks everyone! I had forgotten about stripping the bed and everything - what a pain! Plus definitely no sun to dry in at least until next week
I did cut her nails the other day as they were quite long so I will have to keep on top of that and get some more worm stuff to treat everyone. We don't use soap in the bath so it's not that and we use low irritant washing liquid so I'm fairly sure it isn't related to that. It does seem that it wakes her up around 9pm and she screams and writhes around in agony and it does seem to clear up with treatment so I am pretty sure it is worms.
I will do a follow up treatment and then do pre-emptive worming every month I think and see if that makes a difference. Off to strip the beds now GRRR!
Aww Nai - it's a PITA isn't it and this weather is shocking. Wash in hot hun that will do it and then you don't have to worry so much about the sun. Iz was the same with the nighttime screaming and it went away 3 nights after treatment. Fingers crossed you can clear it once and for all. xox
