    Question Tell me about Reiki

Have you had it done on you?

What was it like? Did it work?

Can anyone learn how to do it?

Um, I studied level one Reiki. I decided to do it after a friend got very sick and died; I'd just felt so powerless.
It's about channelling universal energy and is very cool and very gentle. The practitioner is just the channel and uses their hands to direct the energy.
Those are the very basics. The best way to study is one on one

My SIL studies Reiki and she used to do in on me. I personally don't like it because when I am on the table I see lots of different colours flashing through my mind and I find it to be quite unsettling and not relaxing for me. I have anxiety issues and I wonder if this is somehow related? I'm thinking of having her do Reiki on my belly for the baby but not sure yet. I do know that when I have had my tests done for this baby she sends out Reiki to us from a distance. You don't actually have to put your hands on the person the perform Reiki. I find this very comforting.

Have you had it done on you? Yes I regually give it myself and have had it given by others!

What was it like? Did it work? I havent had a full session by someone else but when I do it to myself I feel warm and calm. I first recieved Reiki when I was pregant with DS1 after a scan showed an abnormality in the brain...I really think it worked on him. My aunt had it when she broke her leg and when she had cancer and both times she healed rather quick. It cant hurt to give it a try

Can anyone learn how to do You have to pay to learn Reiki as it cannot be just handed out. A great book is essential Reiki which I love as a reference.

I have all my levels in Reiki I have lost my way a little with my spiritual side lately and really need to go see my friend to align myself again. I think its a beautiful way to help people. But you always should look after your self first! You use the Rieki energy and symbols in your mind and project the energy through your body to your hands or feet to the person or animal. Your hands need to be placed a certain way and you need to know the symbols. Go and try it it is truly wonderful xx

Reiki is in a nutshell, channelling energy. Anyone is capable of doing it, you can get your attunments through a Reiki Master.

I have all my Reiki attunments and I have attuned my DH & two friends (and of course I have had work done on me also).
I have felt it work on me, although I tend to feel it more when I am working on someone else.
I also have used it on my kids & the older two used to ask for it on a regular basis.

It's very gentle, the best thing about Reiki is it tends to go where it is needed & as it is needed. I found the energy could have a different quality depending on who was working & who the recipient was.

Years ago I used to be part of a group that would hold a free weekly healing session, also did some work at various fairs etc, and at Woodford one year.
I loved it, but like Boomba I feel like I have had that aspect of my life on hold for the last couple of years, and have only used my Reiki at home on myself or the kids.
Interestingly enough I have been feeling a pull back in this direction for the last few months.

I'm trying not to waffle so I'll leave it there, lol.

Yes I have studied Reiki, and given and received it.

Most notable recent experience was a reiki session by a theatre nurse immediately before I went in for major surgery - I felt calm and surround by love and light, and came to feeling the same. It was an extraordinary experience of healing that lasted for days afterwards.

Anyone can learn Reiki, and indeed anyone can channel healing energy with or without the reiki attunements. Ooops I might get into trouble for saying that..but I've had a lot of experience working in groups, and attuned and not-attuned people can channel just the same. The difference with Reiki is it comes through a long stronger in the beginning (ie before you've had a lot of experience), although without the attunement, people who practice regularly can achieve similar results. Reiki is more systematic too in the way it is applied.

Boomba - is that the Diane Stein book? She has written another called Essential Psychic Healing which is worth a read as well.

Nope, I totally agree MD - one of my friends was already healing, for her it was an added extra. I think in some instances the Reiki attunements 'open you up' so to speak, some people may have the belief that they need them (and thus, do) but I definitely think you can channel with or without them.

As for being systematic, I understand what you are saying, I have never been taught systematically, my teachers were very big on being intuitive - I sometimes wonder if I should look into a more systematic approach, it would be interesting to see what it feels like ITMS.

    Boomba I would love to

Wow, thanks for your informative replies lovely ladies! Until recently, I had heard of Reiki but didn't really have any knowledge about it. The reason why I'm so interested in it now is that I have recently had the opportunity to be attuned. I think this is something that I would love to learn and do. It came up in a reading I had done that I should look into doing healing. I was a bit unsure at first but haven't been able to stop thinking about it! The lady who would attune me is not physically located near me so it would be a distant one via Skype. Does that sound shonky or can it be done distantly?

I did 3 days intensive one on one and it was hands on
I wouldn't do it via skype personally.
I'm sure another way will present itself.

    Would she be charging you?

I can't say it would be any less - you can heal over distance - but I myself wouldn't feel comfortable with an attunement being done via Skype.

My suggestion would be maybe look around locally, see if there is a group that offers healing or an individual practitioner , and go from there? I think most of all you need to feel comfortable with the person attuning you, there is an exchange of energy between you.

Thanks Lara & Fleur. Yep she would be charging me. I have no doubt about this lady's abilities and do feel drawn to her. I'll leave it for awhile and see if I can find someone locally and actually get some reiki done on myself first.

If you are comfortable with it, and especially if you feel drawn to her, then I can't see why not, I think that is the most important thing.
