Let's get personal and go south of the border......

Soooooooo coming up to summer and also because I have a wedding coming up I realised that I have been SO slack with ..ahem.... maintenance down south, well since both kids were born really!!

So just wondering what everyone recommends - I am going to get a Brazilian but I'm not sure I will be able to keep it up! How often do you go if you get waxing done?? Is 6 weekly realistic? I think I could do that?!

I have a gf who uses Veet and just washes it off in the shower - harsh chemicals like that near my foofie worry me though so I'm not sure about that, she swears by it!

Another gf waxes herself - I would rather get a tooth pulled with no local - not sure how she does it! I was telling DH about all the things I need to spend $$ on coming up to being bridesmaid for this wedding in 3 weeks time and when I got to this he didn't seem to mind so much about money spent!

So what do you do? Recommend? Swear by? or do you go a la naturale like I have been for years but have realised I really don't like, particularly now that I have been getting AF again after 3 years break!

Yuk Nair. It smells horrible and you sorta have to scrape it off. It might have improved over the years though. NO way using that to prune my Lady Garden.

I just shave at the moment cos I'm so broke but like it trim even though no one's looking at it (sigh). If I wasn't broke I'd regularly wax it.

Don't start with a Brazilian though...for your mental health.

Oh and ask around for a good waxer. I had one that was so rough I swore off waxing till I got a good recommendation from someone that really knew what they were doing.

I tried waxing myself and just couldn't do it..even after a couple of wines LOL! Got myself in a right mess

I usually get an extended at the beauty place, that leaves just a landing strip and they wax everywhere else. Then when I got back, they recommend 5wks, it's just a tidy up.

I have used the Nair (the strawberry scented one) on my bikini line..worked a charm, you wipe it off with a wet face cloth. Only thing is, it doesn't remove the hair follicle like waxing, so I felt a bit itchy sort of like I had shaving regrowth when I wore nickers. I used it on my under arm too and it was great for that!
I use Veet for legs, excellent!!

Interested to see what everyone else thinks.

Lady Garden Lu. I have had a few Brazilians before, pre-kids I should add though. Just got slack since I had them and I never went regularly and just shaved but I am finding it hard to have a 3 min shower let alone one long enough to tackle the jungle before me I'm going to see my GF tonight, might have to question her Nair habits in more detail regarding regrowth and stuff as well, tee hee lucky we are close!

Nair etc etc, no way....it leaves the area numb and tingly, unless you like that

    Shaving is a pain

I wax, I usually get a Brazilian but I too have been lazy coming up to summer I think I will HAVE to do it as we live like 300m to the beach and my bikinis are tiny......

Love any other ideas that work

I agree with Lulu - you need someone good. I once ended up black and blue with bruises from a bad wax. Then there was the one who removed all the skin from behind my knees.....owwww!

Anyway, I'm a Brazilian wax girl - just leave a landing strip, cos that bit hurts the most, otherwise it's ALL off front to back. I find the legs being waxed hurts more than the Brazilian. If you do start though, I doubt you'll go back. I think I go 4-6 weeks depending on the season. I like the clean feeling.

btw - there's no dignity involved in a brazilian wax - just so you know.

Give it a go. If you don't think you can keep it up you don't have too. GL

I tried veet on my legs once, it didn't work...
I usually shave down there (when I can be bothered ). Gets a bit *****ly for a couple of days but it's better than the alternative. Lol

Some of my clients who don't want a brazilian all the time get an extended bikini or g-string wax - oh hang on let me clarify- I am a beauty therapist! Sounds like I am a 'lady of the night' with my 'clients and their foofoo's' best clarify.

So if the brazilian things is too intense imagine having just the areas outside a g-string done - its super tidy and still not as high on the pain scale. Its a good option for a build up to the brazilian too.

6 weeks is good time frame for waxing and if you keep it up to 6 weeks after a year (I am being realistic) you should be able to step it out to 7 or 8 weeks comfortably.

PS I have replied to a thread a while a go in here about what you should look for in a good brazilian waxer and I think some other beauty therapist girls in here also added their thoughts, may be worth a search - goodluck!

I would love to get a brazillian but am too scared! I know they do them all the time but can't even bring myself to make the appointment. Although my cousin is a beauty therapist and says it's like nursing, they don't even notice what they're looking at.
I have a little mini electric shaver that I use. So it's not bald but is quite short. I've heard that even if you don't keep going for waxing every 6 weeks the hair grows back thinner and softer the more you wax.

I gotta say I reckon I'd be useless with getting waxed, I'd probably kick the poor girl in the face lol. So mine's just shaved - DH actually does it for me, he loves it hehe

One time we did try those bikini wax strips. NEVER AGAIN!!! Oh the pain... Was quite hilarious though! He got a little bit off, but wax managed to stay on my 'bits'. The deal was if he got to do me, I got to do a little of him. Now that was funny! We picked a least sensitive spot, but still

OK, so you're gonna have to tell us more than that Rory. When, how did you know which place to go to, how much did it cost, how many times did you have to go back, etc?

Also - what's the difference between Nair and Veet, and more importantly is there a hair removal wonder product that doesn't involve PAIN of any sort near your foofie (thanks Tanstar).

The wax isn't that bad...a well trained beautician can get it done in less than 10 minutes. There's a place here where you can pay big dollars to get it done in 5 minutes!

I used to get a wax every 4 weeks - same as legs and eyebrows - when I was earning well, but now I use hair removal creme. Have never had a problem with it...just don't leave it on for longer than the directions say otherwise you'll burn your skin.

Can I ask (since we're all being honest lol) what about the inside bits, like inside the labia etc, is that still okay, or do you just not put cream there. I find I can shave as it's pretty much growing back 12 hours later So cream seems an easier alternitive. Also, anyone know if it's preggy safe?

No, def not on the inside.

It's not as effective as waxing as you don't get the inside bits, but looks fine from the outside :-P

Yeah, shaving annoys me to no end - stubble and etc. Bah.

From personal experience, keep the cream away from the labia and other delicate bits. It BURNS and then upsets the PH balance giving you a lovely dose of thrush. Just what you want when you have gone to all the trouble of defuzzing only to be off limits until you heal.
