Jazz has constipated. First time ever. Hasn't pooed in at least two days. Well, she's done a few little pellets this morning. I'm not sure what to do to help her. She's walking around like she has a massive pole up her bum, poor thing! She won't go in her nappy, and she tried sitting on the potty but it seems to be hurting her a bit so she keeps getting back up again. I think she's stopping herself from going?
I don't have any pears, or pear juice, or yoghurt, or prunes... I have sultanas...?
I think it could be caused by milk, as she's been drinking a lot lately. Can milk cause constipation?
Is there any position I can try to get her in to help her? She doesn't want to be lying down, and I'm trying to get her to squat, but she's not really doing much but saying "ouch" and crying. I feel a bit helpless, I don't know how to make it not hurt?
My DD1 is usually constipated as she holds them in and when she used to drink loads of milk each day (like nearly a litre) she would get the worst impacted poo's and would bleed a bit when it finally came out. They were a lighter colour as well (don't you love poo talk LOL). Since she stopped the milk it isn't so bad thank goodness. I usually put her in a warm bath which I think helps and it was suggested that a warm drink would help too. Only thing is she won't drink warm drinks for us not even milk now. Sultanas do the job too I find and sometimes orange juice.
I hope it comes out soon poor little thing. DD's tummy gets enormous and she tells me it hurts so I give it a rub.
Yeah pop her in the bath. That may help.
Also, lay her on her back & move her legs like she is riding a bike.. That might help work things down & out a bit more.
Is she constipated or is she holding it??? I did have a problem a while back with Oskar holding it. Doc said, he may have done one which either hurt a bit (or it could've been related to around the time he first did a poo on the toilet which was the start of this year) so he got scared and was then holding it in... anal retentive he called it with a chuckle... serious that's what they call it lol. Anyway, he told me to get a syrup laxative thing called Lactulose but only give him 2 1/2 ml once a day until he did a poo then only if he ever needed it again - which he hasn't. He just wanted to "soften" it which is why he said such a small amount, the usual dose is 10ml for their age. It worked though. I have almost a whole bottle if you want it... it's due to expire next month so it'll get dumped anyway. Send me a msg here or FB or text me!!!
The other thing, do you stand there and watch her go to the toilet? Charlotte went through a phase of "back in a minute mummy" where she wouldn't do a poo while I was standing there, I had to be out of sight lol Maybe she is getting a bit like that?
Prunes will definitely help though, I would go and grab some, I put a couple on her porridge every morning, just chop them up, also means I don't have to add honey or sugar to her porridge
Well we had a shocker night where she was up every hour saying "OW!" and going all stiff. We did the bicycle legs and rubbing her tummy. Shw wouldn't get in a bath, I think she didn't want to sit down. She did one this morning, it was HUGE. Like a medium sized apple. Seriously huge. No wonder it hurt it was rock hard too and came out round (sorry lol!). I had rushed out and bought some yoghurt because that usually works for her, not immediately but I thought it won't hurt at least. She's had some yoghurt, and after that and her poo she seems very happy, running around laughing and squealing and chucking tantys so yep, back to normal I'll try to get her to eat some sultanas. I dunno what would have caused it, maybe dehydration, she hasn't had a whole lot of water and it's been quite warm.
Careful with the sultanas - if you can get her to have them and drink too then they work well - but if she doesn't drink much and has sultanas then she may just end up with a hard ball again - this time with lumps!
I think she might almost understand cause and effect now - so can you say "drink your water and stop that sore pooh coming back"??
Glad she's a happier mite.
