    Spelling drives me crazy

So it's a girl. Which is a little disappointing, because I kind of did want a boy, but I'm not devastated. Also, I had some great boys' names lined up, and NO girls' names. So M and I have been going through trying to decide on one we both like. You should know that T's name was the only one out of hundreds that we could agree on... so finding another girl's name... well, it's going to be challenging, to say the least.

We both like Jasmine, but M likes it spelt "Jazmine" and I like it spelt "Jasmine". What are your thoughts?

I personally like Jasmine better, mainly because the name generally gets shortened to Jazz anyway. Jasmine looks much more feminene and soft, the other looks odd to me.

I prefer Jasmine too. Have known Jasmine's with both spellings though.

I agree with PZ that its more feminine and soft. Such a pretty name.

I like jazmine for the reason it gets shortened to JAZZ

That's what I reckon - the softness, in the way it's written... I love words and how they appear and so the spelling is very important to me (drives M mad )

Maybe that can be my compromise, because I'm fine with "Jaz/Jazz" as a nickname. I've got a bit of time up my sleeves, anyway. Who knows, I got my way with T's spelling!

I like Jasmine. This is Jazzy's full name. We didn't really look into other spellings since we liked Jasmine, although since she has been born I have seen it spelt Jazmin, Jazmyn, Jasmyn, and the traditional spelling: Yasmin.

I think Jasmine looks more feminine.

I like Jasmine much better, she wouldn't have to spell it for people as often as its the usual spelling and she is more likely to be able to get personalised cups/drink bottles etc etc that kids love.

That is true. We spelt all the other kids names the usual way. DD1 is the only one who is different. I always felt bad that we couldn't buy her any of those things, but I really do like her spelling better. I think its because Jasmine is so pretty & girly. I thought Jazmyne, shortened to Jaz, rather than Jas would be more suited to any personality iykwim.
I don't regret it, but she might hate me for it later.

But then I have Brianna, Jesse & Summer & I get asked every time how they are spelt. & with my name being Skye, having to spell a name for the rest of my life was something I'd learnt to live with, so didn't think much of it. Plus, as long as she didn't get called ground or cloud, I really didn't care!

I prefer jasmine, but DH and I both preffer the traditional way of spelling names ... partly because I so totally hate it when people say/spell my name wrong!

    It's tricky, because it's not something really compromise-able ...

I prefer Jasmine. I like names spelt traditional ways. Having said that my name is not spelt the usual way and I'm always having to spell it. It used to bother me but I got over it. I hardly ever correct people these days unless they ask.

I like Jasmine, I have seen it spelt Jazmin before but it was actually a guy named Jazmin. Jasmine is more girly I think

Jasmine definitely. I prefer traditional spellings for things though.
