so following on from threads last week about DD2 and her temps and coughing...the temps have gone the sucking in of the chest when coughing is gone but she still has a very wet chesty cough, not a chunky type of cough, a really wet raspy cough. she isnt coughing very much at all and is happy as larry (apart from tonight ) but im wondering how long i let a wet cough go? im thinking i need to take her to the dr, but if she is temp free is it likely to be more than just a productive cough?
if she will let you, try tapping (with your hand cupped, using only the tips of your fingers) over her back, sides and front. This should loosen the phlegm and make her coughs more productive. If you google postural drainage you might find a video that shows you the technique better than I have described it, but it really helps boytwin when he has these sort of chest issues.
me too marcellus! though im sort of used to it!
traveller ive noticed her poos are really mucosy at the moment, so some is coming up but im sure that because she isnt coughing much its not clearing
I never noticed mucousy poos with boytwin, she could be coughing it up but not spitting it out and swallowing it back down. I would take her to the GP just to check that the mucous is upper respiratory and not lower if it has been going on for a wee while, but make sure the room she is sleeping in is nicely humid (have a bowl of water with eucalyptus oil in her room, or some wet washing on a clothes airer in her bedroom) and raise the end of her bed. It might help her (and you) get some rest tonight.
I hope it doesn't develop into something else and that you and your D get a break soon
It may be the infection shifting and settled lower into the chest, as long as she isn't struggling to breathe and is generally happy and alert I wouldn't get too concerned, but if any of that changes the get it checked out, DD1 has also had mucussy poo's and is inline with the onset of a similar cough.
DD1 ended up with a similar sounding cough called by her Paeds a 'Smokers cough' or 'Old Man's cough', it ended up lasting for months and she would then get infections over the top, in the end it was Asthma exacerbated by issues with her right lung.
