How much sleep is too much?

In the last few weeks, DS has started sleeping in. Overnight he will sleep 13-14 hours and he has one day sleep of at least 2 hours.

Is there such a thing as too much sleep, and should this be a concern? Last night he slept from 7pm-9.15am and then went back down at 12.30 and I had to wake him up at 3.30. He went back to bed tonight at 7pm and was asleep within 5 minutes. He is his usual happy self and nothing else out of the ordinary has happened.

    Sounds like heaven!
I"m sure he's fine - maybe he's doing a lot of growing just now or something

I agree with Marcellus! They are all different and need different amounts of sleep! My DS who just turned 2 sleeps 7-7 at night and still has a 3-4 hour nap during the day! Just what he does and needs and I ain't going to fix what ain't broke, although I have to say it's a bit of a PITA when I want to get stuff done in the arvos and he sleeps from 12:30 til 3:30!! Enjoy!

I have to admit, it is lovely to get a sleep in!
Maybe it is just a growth spurt, and I should enjoy the lie in while I can!

Soooo jealous! Sounds normal to me. DD has periods that last about 3 or 4 weeks when she needs extra sleep and I LOOOVE those sleep-ins! Will sometimes sleep 13 to 14 hours overnight too. ATM, it's all about 5am starts though! Oh bring on another growth spurt please.

I'm so relieved that there are others out there in a similar situation! I've been worried about my 10 week old girl. She's recently gone from sleeping 7-9 hours a night to 11-13 hours. But, like your DS, when she wakes up she's happy.
