    How much do YOU pay?

It was my mum's birthday yesterday. Oops, I thought it was on Tuesday (I always mess up, it's the 6th and I always think it's the 9th for some reason). Disorganised ol' me got ready to hit the shops before a BBQ lunch but my parents came over and ruined that...
So I thought I'd treat mum to a girly afternoon out tomorrow afternoon - go get our nails done, have coffee, yada yada. I've never had a set of acrylic nails done (well, I had some cruddy stick-on ones applied for my year 12 formal and did my nail tech course at TAFE where the other students absolutely butchered my poor hands so I avoided nail salons from then on!) but have been meaning to getting around to doing it for a while now... they're too worn-out from housework to grow to a nice length and I'm sick of them flaking and chipping right down to the quick

Anyway, so my plan is to make an appt tomorrow morning, pick mum up and surprise her with her choice of 'treatment' - simple mani, acrylics, gels, french polish, whatever she wants. I'll be getting my nails done... but I have no idea what it's going to cost me so I know whether I'm being ripped off or not lol!

What do you girls pay for your nails? Gels, acrylics, whatever - give me some approximate prices so I have an idea TIA, ladies!!

I used to get them done regularly, I paid $50 for a full set and $25 for filling...although I ended up going while hog and having them removed and re-apllied every visit. Oh to be rich and carefree again. I went to salons in richy areas though, I've seen them around footscray for $30! Wonder how good it'd be? Enjoy, you feel very spesh with nice new nails!

are u going to a nail bar or a salon?
prices will vary, u can find sets at nail bars cost between $30-50 depending if they have specials on, i personally go to salons, too many horror stories come out of nail bars and it costs around $70 usually for a full set

Thanks, ladies!! $40-$50ish sounds really reasonable to me... I'm not after anything fancy, my friend pays $80 a pop (every fortnight, she gets them taken off and new ones put on rather than refills) for those super-fancy ones with diamantes and glitter and all the rest, I was thinking 'eeek!' but nah, if a standard set of boring old reverse French nails (black tips!) costs about that, then I'm happy I thought I'd just go to the new nail bar at Stockland here so we can sit next to each other and get our nails done at the same time, they don't have prices on their website but I just checked another salon in town and their price for 'standard French' is $98!!! :O So glad I didn't book in there hahaha
I hear ya, Skybie I've done 90% of my nail tech course though so I know what to look for in salons and I'll be sure to get vocal if they do anything dodgy... unclean instruments and cutting cuticles, ugh! Cutting cuticles is my BIGGEST gripe with nail techs, idgi - just push them back, like it's hard to do?

Thanks again girls I'll check the nail bar pricing tomorrow morning and if they're unreasonable I'll chase up a couple of other local salons and see what's on offer Wish me luck!

Lol okay, so dopey me should have put some thought into this and maybe made a booking last week... got mum and I into the nail bar at Stockland this afternoon, had great fun getting our nails done! I asked for a full set of acrylics (French, black tips) thinking they were $65 (ehh, bit exxy, but they turned out fantastic, very high-quality products - I asked the nail tech what brand/s they used and was happy, skilled technician who knew her stuff), but of course they neglected to inform me that 'coloured French' is $10 extra... so $75!! Eeek!
Oh well, they look fabulous and I'm very pleased with the artist who did them... but I'm about to hit eBay and stock up on products so I can start doing them myself at home lol! Mum and I had a lovely afternoon and she was surprised and very grateful for the girly treat, she got 'naturals' (no white tip) and hot pink polish, she loves them
