ive been tearing my hair out with this one! my DD needs to be cuddles to sleep...we do bath, read a book, then she drinks the bottle in my lap and will not be put down till shes fast asleep or hysteria breaks out! doesnt matter if im in the room or not..she stands up, holds on tight and just screams and screams for what feels like hours! ive tried all the tresillian suggestions etc, so im looking for someone who has been ther and actaully found something that works!!!
thanks
We just went through this! DD is also 19 months old. She'd fall asleep and then totally tense up when I'd walk into her room. We converted the cot to a bed and now we can get her into it, stress free.......only catch is trying to convince her to stay there all night!
had the same thing! We had to transistion from our bed to her cot and get her into a regular bedtime routine. Just like PacRakMG we converted her cot to a toddler bed (we put a rail up just in case), she thought it was just great, but first we had to get her into a bedtime routine. We started putting her down at the same time every night, and yes she screamed and cried and sobbed. But we stayed with her, patted her, cuddled her until she went to sleep. Sometimes took 5 minutes, other times an hour. When she got used to that, we would put her to bed (in our bed still) and say goodnight and walk out, so she could get used to going to sleep by herself. Then we converted her cot over to a bed, and I asked her one night if she wanted to sleep in her big girl bed or mummy's bed and she chose her bed, and goes to sleep there very easily. Yes she still comes into our bed at some stage during the night (usually anywhere between 2.30 and 6.30), but we can live with that for the moment. She even now goes to her bed for her nap during the day when she had to sleep on the couch with me before. It took about 2 weeks to get her into her own bed but it was well worth it.
We had the same thing. DD2 is now 16 months and I converted the cot to a toddler bed about a month ago and she will go to sleep with me sitting beside it holding her hand and it takes 10 minutes instead of an hour. We used to have to cuddle her to sleep and our arms and back would be killing us plus she would stand up in the cot screaming the place down if she woke up after putting her down. She needs to hold my hand to sleep though or she gets cranky so I'm trying to 'wean' her off that. I started her off in DD1's bed for day sleeps so she would get used to it. She usually ends up in bed with me but I think that's because I'm on autopilot in the wee hours of the morning.
I hope you find something that works soon. I know how draining bedtime can be.
