Question Pregnant & Breastfeeding ... OUCH!

I am now 18 weeks pregnant and my BBs have been a bit sore in the last month or so, but it has been nothing much. But the last week or two feeding has been sooooooooo painful. She may as well be chewing on my nipples. For about the first 2 minutes each side it is really really painful. I have managed (well today anyway), to just feed her in the morning and again before bed, but I don't look forward to it at all. Her teeth are digging in a little, as there are marks there when she is done, but that's nothing new and was only a little uncomfortable. I think this pain must definately be related to my pregnancy..

Anyway ........ is there anything I can do about it ... that doesn't involve giving up breastfeeding my 17 month old??

Ouch! I have experienced bf while preg twice, and I had sore nipples both times. However, the pain eventually subsided (both times) sometime during second trimester. I tried shorter feeds and less frequent feeds, as I was dreading the pain. But it did go away. DS1 self-weaned 6 wks before his little bro was born and DD self-weaned 4 days before DS1 was born (then took it up again a few weeks later!). So, that meant I did have some lovely, bonding, pain-free bf again with each child before their younger sibling was born. I hope the same happens for you - and soon!

I know how you feel! But it seems to come and go for me. We are just feeding at sleep time and even then I am timing it to gradually reduce the feeds.

We have a breastfeeding while pg chatter thread somewhere. Come join sorry am on iPhone otherwise I would link it for you.

Joey! Congratulations! I had no idea you were pregnant again too

Here is the link to the breastfeeding while pregnant thread: link

I was having excruciating pain when breastfeeding DS as well, and he's always been good about keeping his teeth away so I knew it wasn't that. It was so painful that I felt like I couldn't breathe when he would first start sucking, and a few times it brought me to tears. I'm happy to say that it's now getting better and better each day. It's still more sensitive than before I was pregnant, but easily bearable. I hope that for you the pain subsides soon too!
