Moving interstate - Who did you use?

We used Kent for DH and Dawsons for my stuff (we moved over at different times)

Wouldn't recommend either of them if they paid me. Lost, damaged items, took almost 6 months for them to admit fault to repair them, Dawsons still refuse to admit they lost one of my boxes and damaged 4 others (badly).

So yeah, don't go near either of them! lol

Heard fab things about Allieds, although they are more expensive, but given my experiences, I would rather pay the extra.

FJ, I'd try a local company that's in Cairns, they would be making the trips both ways and will be much easier to stay in contact with once you're up there (if there are any hassles). Not much help on who, sorry!

If they're paying why not splash out a bit and get a company that also packs for you and save yourself that stress. Some even transport cars.

    We used Kent
I wouldn't recommend Kent either. The totally tried to scam us extra hours and there were a whole load of charges on our account that they couldn't tell us what they were.

Good point. You can still do that, but they can get all the packing done in a day and if anything breaks it is definately thier fault cause they packed it. Don't worry I will probably have to decide on movers in the next few months as well. Hate doing it.

    wridgways all the way!

really can't recommend them enough, between mum and I we've done hobart - townsville, townsville - sydney and brisbane - terrigal, never had a problem with them. always there when they said they would be, kept us up to date, delivered on time, nothing lost or broken..great great service.

they turned up on the day disassembled the beds and large stuff, wrapped it all up, had the custom boxes for the tv's.

i will be subscribing to this thread as my DP was offered a job in Qld but the company wouldn't offer relocating costs which was sort of ok seeing not all companies have that in their budget but then they asked could he take a $13G paycut before starting ... well DP didn't wanna work for that 'BIG' company

having said that we are not ruling out moving there yet so would be interested to know a removalist when the time comes.

We went through Transcorp, who basically coordinate a lot of smaller companies to get the best deal as far as who's going which direction. We ended up using Griffiths Removals through them, and they were just brilliant.

ROFL yeh DP said no thanks i already earn more then that in my current job so why would i pay to move there ... and this a big company that makes massive money, what a joke (poor DP was insulted as he is brilliant at his job and certainly not desperate to leave his current one) !

Efjay i'm so thrilled for you, lots of luck when moving there (wish it was me i'm soooo jealous, lol )

Totally recommend Allied Pickfords. We just moved from country NSW to Alice Springs. Completely worth it for the day it took to pack (I hoiked heaps of stuff beforehand though), the insurance and the service.

I used Grace to move interstate. I would not recommend them. My beautiful art deco hall mirror went missing.

We now use Allied Pickfords every time. They are great. We get them to come in, pack, move and unpack to bench/floor level. Next time, if we can afford it, we might also get them to send in the ladies who put everything away in cupboards and make the beds.
