Gel Vs Acrylic which is best?

I am thinking of getting a set of nails now that the netball season is nearly over.

Which should I get? I have NO IDEA

so hit me with some pro's and cons!!

I'm no expert, and havent had my nails done in over 2 years, but from what I know, Gels are better for your real nails, and Acrylics tend to do a bit of damage but they do have better staying power. I tried gels a couple of times, but reverted back to acrylics simply because they lasted longer.

Im booked in on thursday for a set of acrylics, I was looking into whats the best and I found that ppl had there own prefrences. I went with acrylics because from what I can gather they are the strongest im so looking forward to having pretty nails insead of my short ones

I've had gels and they destroyed my nails. Dunno about acrylics tho. Maybe ask the therapist when you go in? ... And come back and tell us, I've been toying with the idea of getting some too

I prefer gels, they look more "natural" in my opinion. Hard to find a technician to do a good job, so I myself have acrylics- just got them re done 10 mins ago, completely black with silver and white nail art on ring finger

How often do you have to get nails redone?

Just got acrylics done on Sunday. I prefer acrylics as they last longer. They do look a little fake when you first get them done but as they grow out more you are able to get them thinner and they stop looking so stuck on.

Depending on how hard you are on them and how fast your natural nails grow you need to get them done once every 2-3 weeks. Last time I had mine it was about 2.5 weeks sometime shorter as mine tend to grow pretty fast.

Just don't get them too long the first time if you haven't had them before or for a while as it can be annoying trying to get used to them. I get mine shorter to start and then let them grow more as I get them filled each time.

As Ella said 2-3 weeks, it's important to get them done regularly otherwise they won't look nice refilled and u will need a new set.
The nails will start to lift if left to long without a refill....

I always preferred gel nails over acrylic, they are a little more flexible and let the nail "breathe", which is great if you already have strong nails like mine. If you have weak nails, acrylic are easier and provide more strength. It really does depend upon your nail type, and the technician who's doing them. I get my toenails done in gel for summer to keep the colour on.

Wow I didn't realise how often you had to get them done! Is it expensive?

Gel is more expensive than acrylic, my refills cost about $30- and I get a new set put on every 6 weeks which is about $50.
It all depends on the salon and of course extras like colour, nail art etc
