DD has had symptoms of H,F&M since Thursday, "ulcers" came out Saturday. She has been so unwell with it the poor little thing. The thing I am wondering though is will DS get it? He had it when he was just under 1. So I am thinking that if he were to get it, he should have got it by now? Do you know if they build up an "immunity" to this sort of thing, hence why he hasn't got it again or should I still keep him away from other kids too?
DS - nearly 2yrs, had it a couple of weeks ago but DD 4 - years - didn't get it at all, surprisingly!!! Apparently there is an incubation period of three days before you start seeing symptons, ie, in DS's case from what I can work out, he contracted it on the Thursday then high fever on the Sunday for a couple of days before the rash came out. So I would say if it hasn't come out in him by now he should be okay, maybe give it another couple of days just to make sure. But boy does this make them miserable poor things, not much you can do, just panadol/nurofen and ride it out, plenty of fluids in any form, watermelon, frozen yoghurt, etc as their mouths are very sore. xxx
The things I read about it recently said that it is bit like a cold where there are different strains, so they have an immunity to the strain they have had but not other strains of it. However if they do get a different strain it is likely they will have it much more mildly (but this varies a lot from person to person, some may still get it bad, some hardly noticable), so I guess the answer is they build up half an immunity?? My Dr said the fluid in the blisters is how it gets transferred so they aren't 'safe' until the spots got down and are flat again.
Dd1 and I got it when I was pg with dd2. Dd2 got it while I was pg with Ds, but dd1 and I didn't get it again. But just to make it even more confusing dd2 got it again a month later, she was teething and had an ear infection too so her immune system was very low.
